Got Killed at Soaring Eagle

Last week Dolores and I took Soaring Eagle's offer of a free room.
The room was good, the free comped food in the Water Lilly was great,
but the video poker was lousy.

I played nothing but quarters for two days at the best games I could
find and lost about a grand. Damn...I hate when that happens!

I dropped $500 on the first day playing Pick-a Pair that stiffed you
five credits on the three of a kind. and $199 on the straight flush
and a couple of other losers. Dolores on the other hand, hit three
quads on Pick-a Pair and made about $400. I could have just handed
her the $400 and stayed in my room watching Sponge Bob Square Pants.

I also play for several hours on a nickel 9/6 JB and lost another
$200.(Yes..$200 on nickels?) I couldn't put my finger on it, but what
I saw at that game, just didn't look right.(maybe my imagination?) I
must of had sixty or more shots, holding trips, at a quad playing
that game and missed them all? I did get one dealt to me and two off
pairs, but none off three of a kind. Coincidence? Unlucky?

I even tried playing the da slots for a while, but no luck there and
I didn't see anyone else getting lucky around me either. I had an
unnamed confidential source at the place tell me that the slots (all
of them? Some of them?) were set at 65% payback. I had no reason to
disbelieve him, especially after seeing my results and the other
patron's results around me all day and night.

They have laid off a lot of workers because the revenues aren't high
enough and it shows in the place.

They shut down the Player's booth in the old building forcing
everyone to stand in a long, long line in the new building for maybe
a half-hour or more just to take care of business. Most of the time I
was there, that line never got smaller than 75 or so people.

Dolores kept winning, for a while, but slowly gave it all back by the
end of the second day playing VP and da slots. So that free room only
cost me #1,000. Not bad for a place to sleep and all the shampoo I
could steal. And they don't even have pens in the rooms now...only
pencils.

PS: We just got another card from Soaring Eagle offering us another
free $1,000 room.

PS: PS: I'm up to 175 pages of my new poker book. This one is a
serious one which should have a better chance to get published.

Sorry about the non post. Hit the wrong button. Deleting posts is
allegedly a no-no, so I left it in.

Anyway SE is promoting their 9/6 JoB and they have it all over the
place in denoms from nickels to at least dollars. Isn't that better
pay back than the pick a pair?

Curiosity, what kind of play get you a free room offer?

Of course a 9/6 JB at 99.54% is a better game, by a couple of
percentage points, than that Pick-a-Pair game, but Dolores won't play
Jacks or Better, so I stayed with her awhile and paid the price.

I did play the quarter JB for a while and dropped a couple of hundred
at that game also. The problem with playing JB is that about the only
thing decent you will can hit are quads and once you get behind, you
rarely catch back up without hitting a royal. And besides, It's even
more boring to play than Pick-a-Pair because of the royal only aspect.

I did play, on the last day before we left, a quarter DD Bonus game
that had progressives on the quads and managed to stay even for an
hour or so after hitting two four of a kind.

Most video poker games in Michigan casinos are for suckers and you
basically, choose your own poison when you play them. It always seems
to come down to playing the "best of the worst," or play a game that
you don't like, just because it's the best in the place.

Dropping a grand did not feel very good, but dropping a weekend out
of my life would have felt even worse.

Dolores and I play at Soaring Eagle only a few times per year. In
the Winter, I'm guessing they don't fill their rooms every night
during the week, so rather than have them empty, they offer them to
anyone who has played there before. And at a grand a night, in my
case, it's probably a smart move.

Except for that grand part, we had a nice weekend at the place and
may take them up again before the Winter is up, only this time, I'll
probably play blackjack.

Hi Terrence,

This is not related to the Soaring Eagle. I was wondering if you could tell me what the paytables are for the Motor City casino in Detroit? I am interested in DB and DDB in 25c/50c/$1

Thanks,

Pete

Terry, are you aware that there is a bank of 25 cent NSU Deuces Wild in the old casino (across the street)? The demoninations are 5 cents (lower paying deuces) and 25 cent (NSU deuces). This is the only game I will ever play at SE because I also can't stand the boring JOB. The bank of 12 machines is located right in the front (right) as soon as you walk in.
Good Luck next time!

MM, see message 1366

Terrence, I did not mean to imply that you did not know the
difference. You, as well as anybody would know how hard it is to make
your fingers say what you mean.

Basically, I meant that you were aware of better games and now with
your second posting, I understand your situation.

They are not great, but there is over 99 percent vp at SE, Turtle Creek
and at Odawa that I am aware of. Unfortunately Odawas cut their cb
for vp players, last I knew.

I played that bank last week with the free play my wife and I obtained
from the "Match This" promotion. We made an overnight trip so we could
each get $100 over two days for a total of $400. Turned it into over
$800 running it through the minimum number of hands. Most of this was
due to the first hand my wife had after donwloading her free play.
Dealt Deuces! I normally play $1 triple play deuces in my area. Wish I
had that hand there for $3K, but we were happy to get $250 with no risk
to our bank roll.

I knew about those NSUD machines,or machine, (I think there was only
one or two that had that particular game) because I posted about them
earlier this year, but when I went to play them, they were gone. I
didn't check every single machine, but the 4 or 5 I checked, didn't
have the game, and the machines looked newer.

Terry

There are about 12 of them and they have been there for a long time.

OK, here is the scoop about the Soaring eagle NSU's: Walk in the front entrance of the old casino (its across the street from the new one ... the bingo hall). Once you enter this casino there will be two banks of machines you face immediately. They are separated in the middle by the aisle that takes you to the main part of this casino. To the left will be a bank of 12 machines ... they are newer and uncomfortable to sit and play at (in my opinion). These 12 only have one good paying VP ... it is 25cent 9/6 Jacks or Better. The bank of machines to the right of this center aisle contain numerous games including keno, slots, etc... in both 5cent and 25cent denominations. As usual, the 5 cent denom have the bad payscales attached. However, if you switch to the 25 cent denom you will find that all 12 of these older machines have NSU deuces on them. Even though they are older they sit and play easier than the newer ones to the left. I was up there about 5 days
ago and do not think they have changed anything. These machines are very popular during the day when the busloads of seniors get dropped off ... they hog the machines but usually play the 5 cent denom only.

Hope this helps.
