Goodbye MGM ... Hello Greektown

Holly Royal Batman … what's this … a vpFREE_Detroit list???
Talk about the dark ages & favorites bookmarks. I was searching the
winpoker & vpfree lists the last couple of days for some info on the
pick a pair machines, then got sidetracked on the bob dancer
threads, then spotted a reference to vp detroit in one of John's
posts. I've been a long time member of vpFree, but using bookmarks
to go straight to the message boards, somehow missed this list.
(BTW … hi John, long time no talk to or see!)

Anyhow on to the topic: Left Greektown as fulltime, MGM parttime in
11-12/02 & lost VIP status for fear of my wife or myself making the
Greektown 9 list. 12/02-12/05 MGM fulltime, GT PT. 12/05-now, back
to GT fulltime, MGM pt, just got GT vip card again.

Why the change? Most has been posted about the 2 casinos good & bad
points, but here's a summary:

MGM the good:
1) $1 FP PE (when you can find an open machine of the FP version.)
2) $2 drafts (14oz)
3) 9/7 DB & DDB pick a pair machines w/ 60 st, 80 fl & 100 fh.
4) did I mention $2 drafts?
5) free play & point play redemption at the machine.

MGM the bad:
1) Real food (if you could call it that) switched to warmed
over "finger food" after 1st of year in VIP room.
2) To avoid total embarassment, finger food removed during super
bowl week & replaced with ny strips & the like. (sign placed in
door ... entry by invitation only!)
3) final slap in face to loyal players ... no more food period, now
just a bar & a lounge. MGM's way of saying thanks for your loyalty
suckers!
4) still coin payout & hand pay for anything over $400 at the main
bar downstairs.

GT the good:
1) $1 (&.25) FP PE & pick a pair DDB w/ 30 3k
2) $1 prog with really decent paytables at the Galleria bar.
3) real food in the VIP room.
4) $2 drink specials for non-beer drinkers like my wife.
5) latest flyer mentions point redemption at the machines coming
soon.
6) Except for rumblings of a group banned for taking shifts &
playing the $1 prog non-stop till it hit when the JP was sweet, it
appears you no longer have to look over your shoulder for security
if you get on a hot streak & play fair.

GT the bad:
1) $2.75 for 12oz draft or hot dog (when the draft is actually
working).
2) price gouged during superbowl week. All prices suddenly up $1.
3) several days after superbowl, prices only dropped by .25 for a
net .75 increase across the board.
4) did I mention $2.75 for a stinkin 12oz draft?

Sorry for the long 1st post ... may your next visit to the casino be
free of sitting next to a key smacker for putting up with it.
