Good trip turned to nightmare & request for help

Just returned the end of last week from Las Vegas. My daughter and her
husband were also there but stayed for two additional days after we left.
My wife and myself had a good trip (didn't lose too much) but my
daughter/son-in-law had unbelievable luck hitting two $1000 royals and
numerous four of a kinds including on $1 deuces in Barbary and $1 pickems in
the Flamingo. Well, we got a call the day they returned home to
Pennsylvania and were heartbroken to hear their story. The day they were
leaving they were playing pickem at the Flamingo bar. My son-in-law had a
travel bag at his feet with all of their money including $3M winnings plus
$2M they had brought with them. Also in the bag was his wallet, passports,
car keys etc. When it was time to leave for the airport he reached to get
bag and it was gone.

This is where I would like to request some help. The Flamingo Hilton where
they stayed and this robbery took place has been incredibly unresponsive to
this episode. They filed a report with Flamingo security and upon returning
home called for any news on the theft. They were told no record of report.
A report was also filed with the Las Vegas PD who advised my son-in-law to
contact the Flamingo and request they check security cameras. He has been
able to get absolutely no where with anyone he has talked to at the
Flamingo - they have a completely "I can care less" attitude. Would anyone
on this list be able to give me a name of a Flamingo official that could be
written to that could possibly help in this situation? Any suggestions
would be greatly appreciated.

Sorry to hear about that horrible experience at the Flamingo Hilton.
Unfortunately, I don't know anyone there, but if you haven't gotten
any satisfaction from anyone at the hotel, you might want to go up
the ladder to the parent company, Park Place Entertainment. Their
address is 3930 Howard Hughes Parkway, Las Vegas, NV 89109.

That really sucks! Especially since they could catch the low-lifes who did this on tape.
   I dont know anyone at the Flamingo, but bad publicity might light a fire under there tail's. How about sending a letter to the Vegas papers or your hometown paper?

Ya think maybe the LV cops should TELL the Flamingo to give THEM the tapes. After all, a crime was commited.

I find this to be absolutely incredible!!! Your son's money belonged
IN HIS WALLET. His wallet belonged ON HIS PERSON. Nowhere else! Not
even for a SECOND! Especially, for God's sake, in Vegas!! I'll bet
someone noticed him putting the stash in his bag and followed him
around for HOURS, waiting for an opportunity. Whenever I get a
handpay I cast my eyes about and more often than not I have a
suddenly interested "spectator". I keep my wallet deep in my pocket
and avoid flashing cash.

This is no one's fault but your son-in-law's. It's not the fault of
the Hilton, Steve Wynn, Oscar Goodman, the Air Force Thunderbirds,
or Oprah Winfrey. It's HIS colossal blunder, and rather than
spinning your head about and looking for someone to sue, you should
thank God that this life lesson, though expensive, was not delivered
to your son-in-law along with a fatal blow to the head.

I can't even say I feel sorry for him; it's a tragedy to lose one's
money and possessions, but it's a tragedy the way blindfolding
oneself and driving down the freeway at 100 MPH, and then having an
accident, is a tragedy. Hopefully, this is the last time he will
allow such a thing to happen to him.

I would drop the crusade against the hotel, Metro, etc. It isn't
their fault that this happened. They can't exactly screen everyone
who walks in the front door. Don't let your son-in-law fall into the
trap of blaming someone else for HIS stupidity and the misfortune
that arose from it.

We got your point from the 2nd sentence. No reason to keep hammering away with your opinions and insults. That's not helping the situation at all, and it only serves to anger this member of our group and possibly make him feel worse.

If you didn't have anything constructive to offer, you shouldn't have replied.

I realize this and I am sure he does.

No crusade, just a civil response from the hotel is wanted. There may be
nothing they can do with tapes, etc. but at least show some good customer
service to a patron who was robbed on their property.

Thank you to all that did reply with suggestions/comments. I don�t want to
take up any more space on our list with this personal matter. If anyone has
any further suggestions please contact me via private e-mail. One last
thing � hopefully anyone who has read about this episode will examine their
own money handling habits to possibly prevent a similar occurrence to
themselves. I know my wife and I certainly have.

So sorry to hear about the nightmare.
Hopefully in the future, more people would have a
chance to watch the Travel Channel (Vegas specials)
before going into a casino. Not too long ago, they
covered this particular thing about how people can
protect themselves from losing their belongings while
playing.
