Good news at Rama

When I arrived at Rama on Saturday I was greeted by a
new multi-denomination choice on the bank of 3-5-10 plays.
Gone are the nickels. They have been wisely replaced by .50.
It was kind of fun listening to the nickel players rant and rave
all day long. The worst complainer sat beside me last week and played
three lines at a nickel per line. Oh well, it just shows you that
you cannot make everyone happy.
Besides freeing up some machines for players who are not asking how
to play each game it has taken away the crowds of spectators who
hover and keep wanting to sit on my lap. Great move Rama, thank you.

I normally do not play weekends, but for some reason the poker room
must think they own the whole casino. I thought during the week was
bad, but the yelling and screeching that went on during my play
was ridiculous. I asked them to turn the volume down PLEASE, but
they just thought it was a joke and yelled louder. Apparently, they
tell me I am the only one who complains!

Have fun, hit a royal, Colin

Well, that's certainly good news! Though, to be honest, since the
machines were so popular with the nickel players, they should have
some of them somewhere in the casino. And, perhaps, more of the
higher denomination ones.

How was your bonus cash? Still looking a bit low?

We'll be there Thursday and Friday to try things out again.

I'm a little disapointed to hear that Rama got rid of their 5c VP. The
funny thing is, even knowledgeable players would probably be tolerant
of "poor" pay schedules on 5c VP machines.

It's good to know that Rama has gotten a clue about what players like.
It's a shame that Woodbine STILL doesn't understand that a $1 6/5 JOB
video poker machine does not make 5% for the house when it sits empty.

Have you checked out the new "Poker for Dummies" machines? These seem
to be similar to "Pick a Pair" and "Pick 'em". How are the pay
schedules on "Poker for Dummies"?

Well, that's certainly good news! Though, to be honest, since the
machines were so popular with the nickel players, they should have

The pay scale is a bonus type one, unlike anything I've seen anywhere
for pick'em. Here it is, for five credits played:

Royal Flush - 10000
Straight Flush - 1200
Four Aces - 2000
Four 2-4 - 1000
Four 5-K - 500
Full House - 100
Flush - 75
Straight - 50
Three of a Kind - 20
Two Pair - 15
Pr 9's or higher - 10

Initially, I thought it would be impossible to analyze this pay scale
with winpoker, but then I came up with the idea of determining a
weighted value for the quads, and putting this, along with the other
changes, into a revised pay scale, and running the analysis. The
weighted quad value I used was 730. The analysis calculated the game
return at 98.26%

It's too bad that the game, and the multi-hand blackjack, with which
it's interspersed, are not better games, since these are gorgeous
machines to sit at and play.

Regarding the multi-hand blackjack, one of the staff there asked me if
I'd tried it. I asked what the blackjack rules were. He replied that
he thought they were fairly typical, and quite good. The first thing I
noticed when I looked was that blackjack payed 2 for 1 - 'nuff said.

Incidentally, while playing the 3/5/10 plays Thursday evening, I saw a
dealt royal right beside me. It was a full coin triple line 50c one
for a very tidy $6000. Better still, its author was an extremely close
relative of mine, by marriage.
