I received a call from the VP of Slot Operations (not exactly sure
of his title, but close enough). I was told that my wife and I would
not be invited to any future slot tourneys because they did not make
enough "margin" on our play.
He was very apologetic, almost embarrassed. He told me in no
uncertain terms that the decision came from "upstairs". He also said
he had a lot of calls to make.
My guess is that the senior management looked at a cost-benefit
analysis on extra "stuff", such as slot tournaments. Drilling down
to a micro level, I'm sure there are plenty of players
whose "margins" did not meet their revised requirements.
We can still play at the GN, enjoy all the other slot club benefits,
just no more tournaments.
As to the "margins", we played the $1 9/6 Jacks and the $2 8/5
Bonus progressive (when high enough). After the removal of all VP
even getting close to 99%, we played just enough to stay on the
radar (there was one machine that still had a 99.2% game), hoping
that we would still get the tourney invites. After they re-installed
the $5 9/6 Jacks, we played those. So I guess their margims were not
as good for us, compared to the slot players!
It was good while it lasted!!
