We used to LOVE to play at the Gold Coast about 3-4 years ago. When we
first moved here (as snowbirds), we lived in the apartments directly to the
north of it (they're called Vista del Valle, on Viking). GC was one of our
home casinos. We'd play there for hours and hours since all we had to do is
walk across the parking lot to get there. Our favorite play was the FPDW at
the Island Bar (the only FPDW in the place that wasn't upright). When they
remodeled, they removed the FPDW from the bar. We hardly ever go there
anymore just because of that. The Italian restaurant (the Mediterranean
Room) was our favorite. We haven't been to their new one.

I've always thought that the Gold Coast was one of the best casinos in Vegas
and I'd be very interested in hearing opinions of locals. As I recall, it
rated very well in a recent vpfree poll.

A few points for out-of-towners thinking of staying there:

1. There's vp everywhere you look. Staff is incredibly friendly and
helpful. Boozers should stock up at the excellent casino liquor store, but
don't buy the cigars there. Huge parking structure is a godsend on hot
summer days. When it's 110 outside, it's a brisk and chilly 109 in the
structure.

2. The coffee shop is one of the best in town, very reminiscent of the
great old coffee shops of the past. Their Eggs Benedict was consistently
among the best in town. I've had Eggs Benedict everywhere, so I know. Tell
me about various strategies at vp, but don't tell me about Eggs Benedict. I
know Eggs Benedict. (Worst, btw, is Buffalo Bills in Primm. Had 'em Monday
morning. Awful.)

3. If you enjoy traveling in a motor home, you'll love the showers in the
rooms. Tiny little fiberglass enclosures that barely enable you to turn
around. But the water is good and hot. Not quite hot enough for instant
coffee, though. I knew a big heavy-set guy (from another online group) who
traveled to Vegas regularly from Omaha and always stayed at the Gold Coast.
My guess is that he washed in the pool. I'm assuming that there really is a
pool. I've seen signs there directing you to the pool, but never actually
found it.

Kidding aside, this is one of best real casinos in town, as opposed to the
movie sets up and down the strip.

Kidding aside, this is one of best real casinos in town, as opposed to the
movie sets up and down the strip.

For smokers, there are real savings, as you can maintain your habit
just by breathing the air. For the rest of us, this may be a problem.

I understand the Gold Coast actually replaced their ventilation
system with the renovation so non-smokers can now breathe easier.
Bad news for smokers, I suppose, as they'll need to bring their
cigarettes with them when they gamble.

And speaking of the parking garage, their new structure is open with
a walkway that leads right into the casino, I was just over there
this week and it's a God-send!
