I am looking for advice on my dilemma. My wife and I are set to
travel from our home in Michigan to New Orleans this thursday Sept
16. We're taking advantage of Harrah's offer, 3 free hotel nights,
$150 air fare credit etc. Hurrican Ivan looks like one nasty SOB,
and appears poised to hit the Gulf coast Thursday AM. Are there any
seasoned travelers out there with any advice on how to deal with
Northwest Airlines? What can I expect them to do? What's the best
way
for me to get to LV on that date instead of NO? Anybody know how NO
might deal with an indirect hit from Ivan, regarding flooding and the
like? What would you all in cyberland do? I'm thinking of just
booking a flight to LV now assuming nothing is going into NO late
this week and the flight will be cancelled. Thanks for any input.

If the hurricane is going to hit there, do not go! NO floods very easily and Harrahs is not really far enough away from river.

If the hurricane hits somewhat east of N.O., say Mobile for example,
then there won't be any big problems (in New Orleans that is). Maybe
some strong wind gusts and some rain, but that's about it. If the
hurricane hits at or just to the west of N.O., it could be a disaster
(depending on the strength and forward speed of the hurricane) and
you don't want to be around. The problem is that you won't really
know for sure where the thing is going until maybe Wednesday
evening / Thursday morning. If it were me, I would try to go
somewhere else.
