My eyes did a double-take when I saw the subject title. For those of a
certain age, this was a movie about the American -Japanese (Nesei)
battalion(s)...the famous 442 and 101st that made their reputation in the Italian MonteCasino
campaign.
"Go for Broke" was the common verbiage of the Hawaiian Japanese-American
soldiers (mostly the 101st) . Culturally, this "let it ride" gambling spirit is
still seen at the California Casino-Hotel around the crap table section. I
have had many a crap pit boss tell me that when a table gets "hot" , this
particular group can easily take a cool million off the property.
At the California, there is a distinct club, "The Golden Arm" with its own
jacket given to any "shooter" who holds the dice for one (1) hour. Thats enough
of my walk down memory lane. Ante Roz
