gift for host

"dumbest idea." come on, we ask each other here for opinions and shouldn't
be afraid to ask. we represent a variety of people/concepts/opinions, and
that variety is what makes discourse interesting here (as elsewhere, in my
'opinion').

for instance, lainie says she would never mail a gift to a host, and then
gives good reasons why she wouldn't. on the other hand, i will be
emailing--far worse, no? --a gift certificate to one of my hosts, who knows me very
well, including by sight since she visits me each time i'm at that casino.
she likes wine, and the wine website i will be using emails gift certificates.
since i'm the one that dragged her into the 21st century by "demanding" she
start using email, i thought that would be appropriate---and fun. on the
other hand, i will be giving my new orleans host, who lost her house and
belongings to katrina, a gift certificate to pottery barn. if you happen to know
your host personally enough to 'personalize' a gift certificate, i think
that's neat. if not, an amex (or visa or whatever) gift card would be appreciated
by anyone, i would think.

i like to think we're here for each other, in some way. so ask anything--no
'dumbest ideas' (well, unless you're endorsing 8/5 job...).

I don't know why, but here's an answer... You can get Amex (and a wide
variety of other) gift cards and at the supermarket and many drug stores.
Additionally, you can always find gift cards on ebay at a discount (but you should be
careful about from whom you buy and check their feedback before bidding).

ps. I'd never mail a gift to a host. I don't believe that any of my hosts
would match my name and my face, and frankly, unless I handed my host a gift, I
wouldn't expect them to associate that gift with me (which means that it's a
waste of money).

WHy does someone ask a video poker board about where to get an AMEX
gift card from. why wouldn't you go to the AMEX website instead?-

like to get my host a gift. I was thinking about an American
Express gift card. Can anyone help me out with advice on the best way to
obtain one of these?

I know our host well enought to know what is appreciated and although sending a gift card/amex card is realy great I feel a check is is more convenient, what is realy dumb is responding to rude remarks over the internet ( and also not being sure how to spell convienent).
