gift for host

I would like to get my host a gift. I was thinking about an American Express
gift card. Can anyone help me out with advice on the best way to obtain one
of these? Or maybe something similar?
Thanks,
Christy

I have sent our host amex cards several times. It's tasteful but I have come to the conclusion that a check is much more appreciated. BTW you can obtain one at your local supermarket

I give our host a card with an Amex gift card for various occasions.
They can be bought at most supermarkets or pharmacys. Cost $4.95/$50
or $5.95/$100 giftcard. I am told most hosts don't accept gifts but
they do accept gift cards.
Hope this helps you out.

I always see Tommy coming down the elevator in the morning with a sweet young thing - maybe you could get him a hooker gift certificate or something..........?

Sending a check is about the dumbest idea I have ever heard.
Technically, most of these hosts are not supposed to accept gifts,
none of them are allowed cash gifts excpet at real dives where they
don't get paid anything. If you are going to give cash, give cash,
there is no trace oh and give the cash in person, don't send it in
the mail.

WHy does someone ask a video poker board about where to get an AMEX
gift card from. why wouldn't you go to the AMEX website instead?-

The Plaza is often more accomodating than that. I see this one as a
"play to earn" gift dollar event, from which you can then proceed up
to the ballroom to select your desired hostess for immediate delivery
to your room.

Were this any other property (I have considerable esteem for the Plaza
and its staffing) I'd suggest this event would cast the player
development crew into a role that, for once, was honest and above board.

(ouch. Just caught the unfortunate play on words.)

I don't know why, but here's an answer... You can get Amex (and a wide variety of other) gift cards and at the supermarket and many drug stores. Additionally, you can always find gift cards on ebay at a discount (but you should be careful about from whom you buy and check their feedback before bidding).

ps. I'd never mail a gift to a host. I don't believe that any of my hosts would match my name and my face, and frankly, unless I handed my host a gift, I wouldn't expect them to associate that gift with me (which means that it's a waste of money).

While is may be difficult to conceive, I've witnessed dumber (or at
least less considerate) acts.

Here is why the check is such a bad idea. Depending on the casino,
you don't even know whether the hosts open their own mail. You could
be putting someone's job in jeaporady sending them a check - they
are not supposed to take cash. Now I know it is kind of irrational
to suggest they could take baccarat crystal and not cash, but that
are the rules of most casinos. I have gotten hosts books as gifts,
particularly those that are industry related. I had gotten some
other hosts other things. I once offered a host in person a parlay
ticket (football) in person, nobody would have known, it was not
from his casino - he still wouldn't take it - they had just axed
another host for taking cash. I got an idea, not only send the
check, photocopy it and send it to the casino's general counsel,
just to make sure you screw the host over.

As for the AMEX cards, this is a minor example of a deeper problem I
see on this board that I have hesistated to comment on because I
think it would engender an even more harsh response despite being
sound advice. There might might as an example an oncologist on this
board who likes video poker, but if you had cancer should you go
directly to consult an oncologist or should you just throw it open
to the VP free board in the hopes that someone knows something? It
is one thing to ask if someone has a reference, it is another to
expect that this group has wide ranging expertise. The one thing
about the internet is that there are groups on everything. If
someone wants in depth knowledge of video poker and related subjects
this is the place to come. For others things there are better
places. I wouldn't ask a cancer support group which casino has the
best cash back, in the hopes that a couple of people there play
slots.

There was a very specific situation I saw posted here recently where
I think though the topic was related, there was an over reliance on
input from the group and only one comment that I saw that was
constructive - but I am not going to go there, I will leave you all
to your little community, sorry to have intruded.

Thanks for the explanation, point well taken.
