Getting Tripped, was Re: Slot club day

I thought this article was so good that I asked Royalcat if I could use his
list in Frugal 2 and he graciously gave permission. It is in my "advance"
chapter on the comp system, describing the treacherous pits that can fell the
best players!!!!

I must mildly disagree. The "best players" make it their business to find
these things out, since it affects their bottom line, compwise, in a big way!

Royalcat's SS article was excellent, both informative and humorous, but the
BEST players didn't learn too much from it, as they already had found most of
these things out for themselves. Maybe the "second-best" players DID learn a
lot from the article.

I believe that ALL players have been caught in casino "traps," especially in the comp system, they didn't expect at one time or another. We all learn from those experiences. Sometimes circumstances or events or policies in a casino are so bizarre that one wouldn't even know to ask the question or investigate beforehand. The "best players" (whatever that means - the one that always plays the best games, the one that plays the longest hours, the cockiest?) do make it their business to investigate AS MUCH AS POSSIBLE, and they utilize their wide network of fellow "best players," a resource that the casual recreational gambler often does not have. But even after 19 years of gambling in casinos, I NEVER think that I know it all when it comes to casinos. It would kind of seem like I was saying I was perfect if I thought otherwise.

Fortunately, for those of us that do not know it all, there are forums like this, where we can get valuable information that might be not so readily available elsewhere. This information saves us scads of scouting and research time for one thing, and saves us from making mistakes that we just didn't realize could be made. I think all wise people on this and other lists realize that gambling in ever-changing casinos is a lifetime learning experience.
