Getting Started Advice

Hi everyone! We are newbies here. In fact, we are total newbies to all of
this. We have been reading the Frugal books, as well as several others
dealing with VP, and trying to learn as much as we can about it and comps
etc. We've gotten the Frugal software and have been working with it on our
computers.

And it's been fascinating reading all your postings here and trying to
understand the terms you are using and all the information you are passing.
We are very happy to be a part of this list now!

We really want to learn as much as we can, as quickly as we can. We are
looking at retirement in a few years and don't have a lot of extra money to
spend--especially since we moved my 90-year-old parents in with us to care
for them for the rest of their lives. But when they are no longer with us
and we are retired, we would very much like to move to either the LV or the
Reno/Sparks area and spend the rest of our days there, relaxing and enjoying
ourselves, as much as we can on a limited budget. We've worked hard all our
lives and this is what we have always enjoyed doing--especially playing
Video Poker.

In the meantime, we live nearer the Reno area and we try to go there 2 or 3
times a year, just to get away from the pressures of full-time elder
caretaking. In fact, at the beginning of March, we will be spending 6 days
there. I know that the first thing we need to do is to sign up for the
various Slotcards. But since we are so very new at this, could some of you
who are familiar with Reno/Sparks, point us in a good direction to get
started? You've probably covered this a hundred times on the list, so I am
sorry for what is probably a repeat request, but we'd appreciate any
pointers, tips, better Casinos to go to, stay at, etc. Anything you can
share would be greatly appreciated!!

We know that now is the time for us to learn what we can, and we want to do
it the right way--from people who are certainly much more experienced at it
and who can help us!!

So, we thank you, in advance, for whatever you can share. It's wonderful to
have people to talk to about all this!!

Thanks again!

Pam,

Go to the Homepage of this site and start traversing! Start with
what our administrator has put together, FAQs-Acronyms-Database etc.
He and SWMBO (look it up) have been cooking up a storm for the last
26 months.

Next is hitting the links after that. It will take you a week or
more to just explore everything once. These other sources have other
non-VP links. Basically you should be able get to anything
worthwhile about Vegas/Gambling/VP/Life in General from the
Motherpage.

Start walking!

Join & check out vpFree-Reno, y'all. - nice place to focus on just
Reno. we need more posters there.
(link via vpFree homepage)

also - may I recommend the Silver Legacy - lots of full-pay, a good
mix of VP all-around. good food and a nice, clean, large casino.

I will be trying out Peppermill in early March myself. Check out my
trip report (March 8th) if you can before you go - that's another
casino that's been recommended often for VP.

And try to quit when you're ahead - it feels good to profit.
Definitely stick to quarters until you get your feet wet.

If FPDW is your game I would also recommend the Reno Hilton. One
advantage to playing at the Hilton is that your comps travel with you
to other PPE properties around the country. There are many advantages
to this; it allows you to try out other vacation spots and know that
you can comp your meals or room before you establish yourself at a new
property.
