Gaming regulations

If you hit a progressive at $1000.01, the machine also says "Win 4001
(coins)
What MUST the casino pay?
What is the regulation that states this?

If the progressive says $125.80, may the casino round down to pay
$125.00? If not, what is the regulation that states this?

Frankly, I doubt there is such a regulation, because there shouldn't be a need for one. Do you reckon there is a law that says that a grocer must give you the odd eighty cents change that you have coming to you. There is already a general law that keeps any merchant from taking eighty cents of _YOUR_ money just so they can round to a dollar and not have to make change. That ... and it wouldn't be worth eighty cents to the casino to have to put up with all the screaming and complaining from a player who they will probably want to keep there hoping to get back some of that jackpot.

Nevada gaming regulation:
5.011 Grounds for disciplinary action. The board and the commission deem
any activity on
the part of any licensee, his agents or employees, that is inimical to the
public health, safety,
morals, good order and general welfare of the people of the State of
Nevada, or that would reflect
or tend to reflect discredit upon the State of Nevada or the gaming
industry, to be an unsuitable
method of operation and shall be grounds for disciplinary action by the
board and the commission
in accordance with the Nevada Gaming Control Act and the regulations of the
board and the
commission. Without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the following
acts or omissions may
be determined to be unsuitable methods of operation:
1. Failure to exercise discretion and sound judgment to prevent incidents
which might reflect
on the repute of the State of Nevada and act as a detriment to the
development of the industry.

Notice that both in the initial paragraph and in the first point actions
which reflect poorly on the State of Nevada and / or the gaming industry
are prohibited.

This regulation is brilliant. It not only would prevent casinos from
withholding a win (i.e. rounding down) it also prevents activities such as
changing reel positions to make losing slot spins look like near major
jackpot hits.

Hope this helps.

Bill. Would you clarify this (edited) statement for me please. Are you
saying that programed "near misses" on slot machines are illegal in
Nevada.? Thanks, Dick McK.

How do you figure that? They have a contractual obligation to pay you if you win.

Yes, absolutely. I confirmed this with a senior enforcement agent of Gaming
Control. He was the one who pointed out this catch-all regulation.

On the Gaming Control web site there is no regulation 5.111. It goes from 5.110 to 5.112. Can you be more specific? At 05:12 PM 05/29/2004, you wrote:

Sorry. I downloaded an index which had 5.110 as ruling for "payment
of a wager". My error is stating 5.111 Look at 5.110

I agree but don't know how much.

Meter on machine says $1000.01
Meter above says $1000.03
Machine say WIN 4001 (coins)($1000.25)
How much will they pay or rather, how much MUST they pay?

OK, I see what you mean, reg 5.110 addresses progressives. What I see
that's relevant is the first part of 5.110.5:
5. A licensee shall not reduce the amount of a progressive payoff schedule
or otherwise
eliminate a progressive payoff schedule unless:
(a) A player wins the progressive payoff schedule;

Seems to my non-lawyer reading that this (and other) sections appear to
support the need to pay the full amount to the winner. If you want to
follow up may I suggest you call Gaming on Tuesday and ask to speak to
Enforcement. They are usually very willing to point you to the specific
regulation that applies.

On my first attempted call to enforcement, the reply was that the
casino could establish whatever standard they wished for.

My example
Meter on Machine $1000.01
Meter Above machine $1000.03
On machine "WIN (coins) = $1000.25

Which MUST they pay?

I will call again. There are 2 casinos that I know of that pay to the
penny, disregarding the "WIN xx (coins) and one that rounds down.
