Forget the VP. Horrible pays.
For blackjack, a table with a $15 minimum (or higher) pays 3-2 for
blackjack, lower tables pay 6-5 EVEN if you play at higher stakes. The 6-5 tables
were very active including my friend who played at high stakes ($25 and up
with a simple 'win a hand increase the bet' progression. When I urged him
to change tables, he told me, 'blackjack payout isn't as important as
avoiding weak players. They spoil your hand by drawing when they should not.
He pooh-poohed my suggestion that they help as often as they hurt. I went
off and played at the other tables, leaving him to his superstitions.

In theory, there is no difference between theory and practice. But, in
practice, there is.

You said:

My response would have been: "If you want to avoid weak players, then you should never play at a table at which you find yourself playing at"

Kinda like if you can't figure out who the fish is at the poker table, it's probably you.
