Gaming News from up north

I noticed this in the Elko paper this morning....I quote, in part:

"The Holder Hospitality Group Inc. has placed its 13 Nevada gaming
properties up for sale.
Holder’s Eastern District President Sean Mowray said this morning that owner
Harold Holder is planning to retire and has contacted an investment bank to
help facilitate the sale of the casinos — which include the Stockmen’s and
Commercial in Elko and Red Garter in West Wendover.
Mowray was unaware this morning what Holder’s asking price is for the 13
casinos. It is more than $200 million, according to an article in the Reno
Gazette-Journal."

Well, there's no place to go but "up" for those two Elko properties....If
anyone is interested in experiencing the "old school" grind joint casino
experience, c'mon up and spend some time downtown. (In the meantime, it seems to
me there's a guy who's been posting to this group recently who sounds like he
should have no trouble in coughing up a couple hundred million for a little
purchase like this.)

On a related note, the new management at the Red Lion seems to have made
good on their promise to entice us locals with more and better promotions....a
week doesn't go by without a chance to go in and get something free
(T-shirts, glassware, travel games, etc). And I've gotten pretty steady mailings for
$5 weekly freeplay and restaurant comps at the recently opened Gold Dust
West. So maybe new ownership of the downtown joints will eventually kick things
up a notch there too. (Now, if only somebody would install some sort of real
full-pay games in town here....)

Some of his properties stretch over to the west side of Nevada.
Besides the Elko properties you mention, I have been in the Silver
Club in Sparks, Sharkeys in Gardnerville, and the El Capitan in
Hawthorne. If they put out "for sale" signs, they should add a
tag "as is", as all these places should be considered fix-er uppers.
They all need major upgrades.
