This switch was made in the 60s due to the removal of silver dollars
from general circulation due to value of their silver content
exceeding their face value. Token were made to be the same size as
the silver dollars. In 1973, the IKE dollar was made and was used in
some dollare machines, but it was not a very popular coin due to its
size. The SB Anthony dollar came out in 1979. Many $ machines were
change to accept this coin but $ machine play fell sharply as players
liked having the 'big' coins drop out, so casinos as to change the
machines back to accept those big ugly tokens. I personally dislike
having to play $ vp machines that deal with tokens. Just the other
day, it require two hopper fills to cash out $550 would of clunky $
