Gambling With an Edge June 2nd

We'll be having on Nolan Dalla tonight, a poker player and writer who is currently the Media Director for the World Series of Poker.

With the SOP in full swing it should be a good one.

More on the M progressive strategies...and a report of what's been going on over there since the bank was turned on.

Our Live Air-Time is: 7 PM Thursday nights on KLAV Talk-Radio 1230am In Las Vegas. You can listen live at: http://www.klav1230am.com/

Nolan is a great guy. Great personality. He was a columnist for Cardplayer Magazine for several years, and then for Poker Digest. I used to read all his stuff. Very good poker writer. I played poker with him a few times at the WSOP when it was still at the Horseshoe. Always a fun game, win or lose, when he was in it.

He can tell some funny stories. I probably don't have all the details right but he once told of showing up at the WSOP and somehow or another his reservation was lost. Everything was sold out downtown. So he runs into an old poker playing buddy he hadn't seen in several years. He tells the guy of his plight. The guy says "No problem, Nolan. I got a room at the Fremont with double beds. You can stay with me. Just take your bags over and leave them at the bell desk. Whatever time we get through playing poker tonight, I'll take you over and get you a key made."

So Nolan took his bags over then came back to the Horseshoe. They were in different games and his buddy came over and said "Hey, Nolan, I just got stacked off, can I hold $1500 until we get back to the room tonight. Nolan dutifully handed over the money. Later that night Nolan finally got tired of playing and went looking for his buddy. The guy was no where to be found. Nolan went over to the Fremont and asked them to call his room....nobody by that name staying there. Nolan never saw the guy again.

This guy is a pleasure to listen to. Please ask him to tell at least one Stu Ungar story.

Well Nolan Dalla was our very first no call, no call-in. We are not sure what happened, and at this point still haven't heard from him. Hope he's OK.

We played the first segment of my MIT Blackjack Team interview instead and talked about some extra things.

I now feel like a real radio host...I'm no longer a last sec cancel virgin.

Maybe he ran into that guy who scammed him out of his luggage and the $1500, and he's somewhere right now kicking that guy's ass.

Or perhaps he's stranded in London, unable to pay his hotel bill, getting no help from the embassy, and waiting for someone to respond to his email plea for a loan!

Now THAT'S more like it.

I will never understand the mindset of people who say they are going to do something, then don't do it, and in the process leave the other well-meaning party completely in the dark. A simple, but powerful, matter of character & trust.

Mickey, care to re-evaluate?

First, Nolan is fine. He did contact Bob by email shortly after our show time Bob simply went to sleep without forwarding me the message.

Nolan's reasons for missing the interview were perfectly understandable and we are hoping to reschedule him in the very near future. He's more upset about it than we are by a large margin.

I have also missed one interview during my radio career and can hardly fault anyone for something I've done myself.

Look at it this way, if everyone was perfect they would have a better ending for this sentence.

It's a real shame he didn't show. I was really looking forward to it. I'm figuring that as Media Director of the WSOP the guy has to be super busy right now. And there is this major press thing going on with Phil Ivey boycotting the WSOP. Phil has gone to bat for the American players that Full Tilt have not refunded to the tune of $150,000,000. Many of them cannot play this years WSOP because of it.

Nolan was Media Director back in the Becky Binion days. I'm assuming he's had that post ever since but can't say for sure. Another little tidbit about him is he was living just a few blocks from the Pentagon on 9/11. He told me that himself.

Can you guys forgive him for the no show and keep trying to get him on?

Best I remember, Nolan was able to retrieve his luggage from valet. I don't think the guy even had a room at the Fremont. I think Nolan just got pure hustled.

No worries. He's forgiven and we'll be announcing his reschedule soon.

Not really. I have this huge character flaw, Rob. Try as I might, it's just very hard for me not to forgive someone. I just don't hold grudges. That includes you too. God forbid that I should leave this planet with even one enemy. And if anyone catches me over on FREEvpFREE buttin' heads with Rob, please drive up here to Montana and slap the hell out of me!
