Gambling with an Edge --- June 14

This Thursday's guest will be Arnold Snyder, one of the all-time great gaming authors, talking about his book "Poker Tournament Formula." If we don't scare him off, he'll be back next week as well talking about "Poker Tournament Formula 2." Snyder's books are considered controversial by some players partly because they disagree with Dan Harrington's books, which are widely read and admired. Some of the questions we'll be asking Snyder will cover the points of disagreement between the authors. In the last 5 minutes of last week's show http://www.slot-machine-resource.com/podcasts/jbeen2.mp3 I mentioned a cheating incident that occurred in an invitational tournament I attended recently. We'll be talking to Snyder about how rampant cheating is at poker and how players should protect themselves against it. You'll probably follow this week's discussion a little better if you listen to the original.
GWAE may be heard live Thursday evenings from 7-8 in Las Vegas on 1230 AM or from www.klav1230am.comfrom
anywhere. The shows are archived the next day on bobdancer.com. You may subscribe for free from iTunes to get the podcasts delivered automatically to your device.

Bob, I think the guy got away with palming the three big chips because it was a shoddily run tournament.

They could have counted down the chips before the first round, then counted them down again after the first round, but that is not a very good solution, in my opinion. It opens up too many cans of worms. If there are chips missing, who stole them? They could review film and might find the culprit(s). Or they could watch the second round closely to find the culprit(s). But it's all too much work. The easy solution is to use different colored chips for the second round.

I think the old saying "Screw me once shame on you. Screw me twice shame on me" applies here. Were I to encounter a tournament of that structure in the future, I would have to make my concerns known to tournament personnel before the tournament starts.

That's the most sensible solution that's been suggest to me so far. The invitation will come several weeks before the event (assuming I'm invited again.) That's plenty of time for them to arrange to make changes. Bob
