Interesting article in todays LVRJ. For 10 years, William Poulos has
been pursuing a class action lawsuit charging casinos, slot builders,
and cruise lines (virtually the entire gambling industry) with
fleecing gamblers using deceptive technology, crafty marketing, and
outright deception. He is represented by David Boies, Al Gores
lawyer in the 2000 recount in Florida. They believe this case will
be like the tobacco lawsuits. At first tobacco won, but eventually
they lost billions.
Poulos claims he was fairly successful at most forms of gambling,
until he began to play slots and VP. In a deposition he states: "It
really struck me once in the late 1980's that something wasn't right
about this. In 1990 I was sitting at a video poker machine. Twelve
(losing) hands in a row I had ... I probably said to myself ... I
should sue those %#@(&*+! because they are cheating me."
This may be the easiest way to get rich gambling ... lose a bundle
and sue the casinos. His case is pending in the 9th U.S. Circuit
Court of Appeals in San Francisco.
