Lucky Lucy and I just returned from a six week excursion in our
motorhome, much of which was spent at casinos in Mississippi. We
played mucho VP but failed to score a royal and suffered some modest
losses but did get lots of comps including free stays at RV parks.
We spent several days at Casino Magic at Bay St Louis, they have a
great RV park and a wonderful buffet. The full pay VP machines are
becoming fewer and fewer, however, some do still exist. As reported
to the VPFree database, the AA machines are gone. The 3-play quarter
9/6 JoB are not totally absent as reported -- there is still one
machine available. All the 3-play machines in the same kiosk have 8/5
Bonus. This has not changed since our last visit a year ago. The JW
and Double Bonus are still there.
The President and Treasure Bay in Biloxi are the same as a year ago.
Don't think they will ever change machines and some are becoming
antiques.
We also spent several days at the Hollywood in Tunica (twice, both
traveling to Biloxi and returning from). The VPFree database is
pretty well correct on this one. We did have some modest luck at the
Hollywood, mostly on the dollar JoB's (two straight flushes). The
buffet here is not much but free with a little play. They did give us
a couple trips to their upscale restaurant, The Fairbanks, and it was
excellent in both service and food. The quarter 8/5 JoB progressive
ran up to over $2500 before it was hit (first time I saw one go that
high).
We also walked across the street to Harrah's where we witnessed the
further destruction of full pay video poker. We found no full pay
machines in 25 cent; and while we were there they took out all the 50
cent machines and replaced them with short pay. There are a few full
pay JoB in the 3-play but, as best I can recall, only at $2 and up
level. The buffet at Harrah's is just slightly better than Hollywood,
not worth burning comp points to partake.
All in all, a great trip. However, we are considering changing Lucky
Lucy's name to Lucy the Cooler.
