Recently I had a book signing at the Gambler's Book Shop (aka GBC, Gambler's Book Club) in Las Vegas--I autographed all store copies of "The Video Poker Edge" before leaving.
GBC is a slice of Vegas history--owner Howard Schwartz keeps saying I've got to stop calling it an "institution", he says, "you know what people will say..."
Howard has 101 framed photos on the wall--eclectic group, each a part of Vegas's past--ask for the annotated booklet identifying each person. ( Every one of these people, many now deceased, came through the same door to gab, sign books or buy gambling products--guessing no back room games, but you never know.) Best of all -- if Howard's around, you can get a great inside story on the likes of Si Redd ( deceased IGT founder--in vpFREE's HOF), Howard Lederer (Hold'Em expert), Stuey Unger ( deceased gin and poker genius, bio is "One of a Kind"), Barry Greenstein ("Ace on the River"--Hold'Em), Benny Binion, John L. Smith ("Running Scared"--Wynn's bio, "Sharks in the Desert", Of Rats and Men"--Mayor Goodman's bio) and many others. Amazing stock of most gambling books--although he's still looking for a copy of "Poker Kings of Las Vegas" by Raymond King. (Stuey Unger wanted that book--kept asking for it. If anybody has a copy please contact me--it's unavailable on Amazon-- I want to read it as well.)
GBC has been in business since 1964--however, nothing stays the same forever--I hope everybody on this board gets the chance to see this book shop as it was when the famous and infamous stepped through the door. (GBC is for sale, although Howard will stay on to train for a period of time.)
