A short list of the likely pathogens in car exhaust:
Carbon Monoxide
Nitrogen dioxide
Sulphur dioxide
Suspended particles including PM-10, particles less than 10
microns in size.
Benzene
Formaldehyde
Polycyclic hydrocarbonsThanks for the tip! However sucking on an exhaust pipe doesn't
sound like it would be much the lesser of two evils.
It would seem that way. But, there is marginal correlation in
lung cancer rates (and cancer rates in general) and living in
smoggy cities. There is a huge correlation between smoking and
lung cancer rates and heart disease rates.
Sucking on a tailpipe is very bad for your health. Sucking on a
cigarette is worse.
Congrats by the way on your SuperTimes win!
Thanks Tigger! Not trying to nitpick on the smoking/exhaust
thing, but I think it's a crucial point. Most smokers rationalize
that smoking is OK because so many different things can cause
cancer. It's important to make the distinction: many things MIGHT
(as in extreme longshot) give you cancer; smoking has a very good
chance (as in coin flip) of giving you cancer.
