(Fwd) Sunset Station Update

******************************************

My Wife and I just returned from Sunset Station and they added
(7) MG/MD Optimum uprights in a new "non smoking" area along a
wall between the Italian Restaurant and the high limit room. They
have the same games and denominations as the other optimums. I
was told these new machines were added about 6-8 weeks ago.

Excuse me for showing my ignorance .. but by "optimum" does one mean
full pay or max table for the game? It's a term I have not seen used
with VP before.

Thank you.

As used by Dan Paymar in his book "Video Poker - Optimum Play", he
defines it (paraphrasing) as play toward a desired goal that takes
into account bankroll, playing time and skill constraints.

Among other things, he distinguishes between optimum strategy and
computer-perfect play. Given the diverse factors (on top of the
paytable) that bear on game economics, "optimum play" might be a
better description of best strategy in the casino than the often used
"perfect play".

FWIW, "VP - Optimum Play" was ground breaking at the time of its
publishing and continues as a good read. It a fine reference for
inclusion in your vp library.

My apology ... I didn't note the specific email to which you replied
when I prepared my comments.

I believe that the "Optimum" machines have exclusively "full pay"
paytables. However, I've never seen these machines.

Optimum play VP machines , are the ones featured at Station Casino's and endorsed by Bob Dancer. They usually will contain a mixture of Full pay deuces ( quarter only) , 15/8 loose deuce , 10/6 DDB, 10/7 Double bonus in 25C, 50C, $1 . These games only earn 1/2 points, because they have over 100% expected value ( as the sign above the machine points out ).

regards... Tom

That is not correct. Optimum Play machines, at Station and Fiesta
casinos, are those where every game returns more than 100%. They have
nothing to do with me, other than when I've collected free play at one
of those casinos, I've usually done it on an Optimum Play machine.

When I taught at Fiesta, there were some Bob Dancer machines there which
included games taught in my classes. (Games with a similar mix may now
be found at Silverton.)
