I may regret this, but I can no longer look the other way on this
thread. Being as I live only one short block from the Arctic Ocean,
(that's above 71-degrees latitude for you folks with a map), I can,
with some authority, speak on this subject.
The Arctic Ocean has frozen over for the winter about a month ago and
all is normal. Both private and government scientists are up here year
around watching the Arctic. Are things warming up? From everything I
have seen, I would say yes, but only a bit. The Earth has been known
to have gone through this many times before. The change they are
seeing is in the area of 2-3 degrees. Please do not inflate it higher.
Blaming autos for global warming and pollution is the politician's way
of diverting attention away from the real cause. Extreme
environmentalists blame everything. In reality, autos pose very little
threat and contribute very little to the problem. But for those trying
to make a point, and not knowing much about what they are talking
about, autos are the easy target.
The vast majority (98%) of pollutants found up here are industrial and
come from Russia , China and other third-world nations. The world
today has more people on it than in anytime in it's history and the
population continues to climb, thanks in part to the Catholic Church
(worldwide) and Republicans in the U.S. (I am one) and their need deny
any type of birth control or education. I am not picking on the
Catholic Church or Republicans as there is a lot of blame to spread
around, but they are the east target. With more people, you have more
pollution. It is almost as simple as that.
Third world nations are just beginning to industrialize and they are
doing it the cheapest way they can (just as we originally did) and that
is causing the majority of the world's pollution. Politician's can't
shut down factories for obvious reasons and third world nations can't
afford the cost of building cleaner factories. It is almost like a dog
chasing its tail. It is going to continue for the foreseeable future.
The environmentalists say the "sky is falling" and the politicians say
nothing is wrong. As usual, the truth is somewhere in between.
