Not sure if this is from Mickey or the admin, but here's the replies. If
it's not from you could you forward it.

Well, how long did you pound on the dollar Joker's at the El Cortez, Frank? I
know you know what was going on there. Jackie had the machines staggered so you
couldn't play two at a time. He also had the deal/draw speed slowed down to a
crawl. You couldn't get out 500 hands an hour. So did you pound on those
Joker's, Frank? Or were you greedy and self-serving by moving on to a joint
where you could get out 2000 hands an hour?

I have never played JKR at the El Cortez, to my memory. The last JKR I
played was in 1996, I think? Can't really remember.

So how many video poker players did you not hire because they couldn't get up to
snuff. Was that a benevalent move?

Quite a few, and no that was clearly not benevolent. I was also working
under orders...and I was 23. we are talking 2 decades ago.

Though Mom and I came up with better training techniques so we could
improve the pass fail-rate.

Yeah, I like Whale Wars too.

One of my favorite pieces of human trivia is the bird-do-do wars between
Peru & Chile.

Have you ever watched Deadliest Catch? You see how hard those guys work? I was
a stevedore in Dutch in the late 80's to 92. The Russians and Americans had
this glasnost thing going on. On the American side of the Bering there were
quotas as to how much fish could be pulled up. You had to leave enough fish
down there to reproduce. So the work was seasonal.

Meanwhile the Russian side of the Bering was teaming with fish. Gorbachev got
the idea that his fishermen just didn't know how to fish. Joint ventures were
proposed. Split the catch 50/50. Gorbacheve thought for sure the American
fishermen could teach his guys how to fish. And the Americans chomped at the
bit to get to the other side of the Bering.

Didn't last long though. You see, the American fishermen were paid on
production. They were paid a percentage of the catch. They had major incentive
to work long and hard hours. But the Russian fishermen were on salary. They
were on State payroll. It didn't matter if they caught 1 fish or 100,000 fish,
they got paid the exact same thing. And it wasn't a whole lot. I seen many a
Russian fishermen in Dutch. It was an easy observation that they were very
poor. And they had absolutely no incentive to produce.

This is a really good example. You'd think fishermen would be a better
breed of people. But no they faired no better than the poker dealers.
Good info, and nothing I'd heard before.

So what happened to the joint ventures? They fell though in less than a year.
The American fishermen got tired of doing 90% of the work for 50% of the catch.

Well you have given me a lot to think about.

I was already having a bad week. I spent the weekend babysitting some
young girls. One was just the right age to be my daughter, that I
haven't seen in 9 years. It was fun and, then I got very depressed.

Do you have any advice for mid-life-crisis???
