In your outstanding Casino Data Base information I cannot find any
references to the VP Treasure Chest games that are in at least all the
Las Vegas Boyd Casinos we have visited. Is there a particular reason or
reasons?
As you know, when you hit any four of a kind on a Treasure Chest
machine with five coins played, immediately five small treasure chests
appear on the video screen and you chose one to determine the payoff.
Payoff amounts vary from 140 coins to $1199 (obviously the most
frequent payoff is 140 coins). I have read about two schools of thought
regarding "treasure chest selection." One group maintains the "wheels"
spin behind each treasure chest until you select one and you receive
whatever payoff is behind the selected treasure chest at the instant of
selection. A second group says that when the five treasure chests pop
up on your screen the pay off has been decided and all five chests have
the same payoff number -- therefore it does not matter which you select
because they are all the same. Obviously, you never see what is behind
the non-selected chests. Can you settle the question?

The reason the game is not in the database is because with a 40K of
140 the game is only 98% payback. It would have to average 185 per
40K to be positive.

Can't answer your second question.

I haven't seen any evidence that it doesn't average close to or over
185. I suppose it would take a long time player who kept track of all
the chest values to answer this question.

My own guess is it probably averages close to 180.
