FVP & Windows Vista

I installed FVP version 1 on a new laptop and cannot find where to get
software update. Copying update from previous computer did not work.
FVP works, except for Help, but I no longer have PE. I've tried
checking messages here and websites that I thought would work but no
success. Any suggestions?

You can get the last FVP update at...

The help won't work on Vista because they no longer support WinHlp32.
However, you can still install it on your PC. It is non-invasive and
I'm sure you have many other older programs that will need it.

Installing the FVP update can also be tricky. Be sure you log in with
administrator privaleges. Vista will be in the background fighting
the installation. What you do is run the patch. Before you answer any
patch dialogue, look for a behind the scenes Vista query asking if it
is ok to install the program. If you jump ahead and try to let the
patch do its thing, it may not install right.

I will always support FVP in any way I can. However, there will be no
new updates, as that VP engine has passed away, replaced by the more
powerful Wolf Video Poker.

I want to go on record that I support ALL VP software programs on the market
and I have most of them installed on my computer. Although most of them
have the same basic features, each has unique functions which make them
valuable. In the resource section of my recent book, "Frugal Video Poker,"
I listed all that were on the market at the time it was published. And in
new editions, I will add any new programs that I feel are valuable.

Dancer's Video Poker for Winners - I use this to practice Multi-Strike

Paymar's Optimum VP - This is the only VP program that runs natively on both
Macintosh and Windows.

Dunbar's Risk Analyzer for VP - Great for bankroll calculations

Wolf VP - I haven't seen this one but I know Jim Wolf is a good programmer
and the list of features on his Web site shows some new valuable features.

The Frugal VP software program - The one I use most frequently.

Some VP enthusiasts will have every one of these programs. They want to be
as prepared as possible by having every tool available in their VP workbox.
But most players will probably just want one or two, especially if they
aren't particularly "techie."

That brings me to the subject of why Frugal Video Poker has been the program
that has helped thousands of VP players. It not only serves as a tutor when
you play but it also generates strategy charts - the two functions that are basic needs. It has a valuable
calculator for analyzing slot club benefits and many other extra functions,
including the capability to figure the value of quad bonuses.

But one of the prime benefits is that this program is the only one that has
a hard copy "manual," my same-named book, "Frugal Video Poker." The two
were created to go together. The book will give you instructions on how to
use the software more expertly. The software will give you the means to
practice the steps I outline, chapter by chapter, to become a skilled
player.

I will add now some personal details that I never wanted to have to discuss
in public, but Jim Wolf has made some serious and untrue accusations on his
public Web site. I wanted our business relationship to continue because it
was also a friendship relationship. I am deeply disappointed that Jim
initiated the end of both of these relationships, but I was hoping we could
end the business in a fair and reasonable fashion. This was not to be.

When Jim first told me about his new and improved software that would not be
a Frugal Gambler product, he said, "Don't worry. Frugal Video Poker will
always be yours." I was already very deep into writing the book at that
time - in fact, Jim had already written a couple of chapters for it,
explaining how to use the software. Then when he told me he wasn't "into
writing," I got Viktor Nacht to take over the software instruction part of
the book.

I didn't refuse to give him back the inventory of the CD's. I just pointed
out the fact that the shipping would be very expensive and we should
probably work out some way to sell them and split the money while he was
finishing up his new product. He not only didn't like this idea, but he was
refusing to sending me about $7000 he owed me from the last quarter of sales
our business had made.

So the long and short of it is that he still owes me $7000 and since he said
FVP would always be mine, I am continuing to sell it to recoup some of the
money owed me. But I am also selling it because it is a darn good VP
program and meets the needs of many VP players, particularly those that will
benefit from using it with my book.

It is not being sold "illegally." It has my copyrighted name on it, "Frugal
Video Poker." I would willingly share the profits with Jim if he paid me
the $7000 he owes me.

Jim's new program is brand new, not just an update of FVP. It is called
Wolf VP. I don't think Jim is giving a discount to people who bought FVP.
I'm sure his new program is good, but I feel no obligation to tell people
about his new program or any other one for that matter that might have
different features. FVP stands alone in being a robust and full-featured
program. It does not need updates. Thousands of satisfied customers are
using it today. New programs will probably always be introduced. Unless a
new program does something that the old ones don't do and it is a function
you need, you may not need to invest in it. That is a personal decision,
depending on your needs and wants.

Many people have successfully installed FVP on new computers with Vista. A
few have had problems, and RGE and I have worked with them until the problem
is solved.

I am hoping that Jim will cease putting out untrue information, something that hurts him more than it hurts me. He needs to concentrate on marketing his own product. All this negative untruth he puts on the Internet hurts his reputation as a businessman.

I want to put the whole thing behind us and I have long ago forgotten about the $7000 I lost. That is nothing compared to losing a friend.

Mentioning somethng three or four times times in one post is hardly a
sign that you've forgotten about it. If your only justification for
doing something illegal is that someone else owes you $7000, then
clearly this money is on your mind.

While FVP has some decent features, it's very much a version 1 while
Wolf VP is a version 2. WVP contains all of the goodies of FVP and much
more. If you HAVE FVP, it's a fine product. If you're buying a new
product, there's no reason to consider FVP as WVP is clearly superior in
all respects. (I strongly support Video Poker for Winners, of course,
and argue that it has strong features that neither of these programs
have.)

I only know second hand the disagreements between Jean and Jim. I am
hardly in position to know the exact history of the $7000. I have spoken
at length to Jim Wolf about Jean representing him during the time he
believes FVP was being sold legally. I find him very persuasive. I do
not find Jean persuasive, but she and I have a history so your mileage
may vary. Jean is choosing to trash him on this site where he doesn't
regularly post. If you wish to read what he says about her go to
http://www.wolfvideopoker.com/FVP.htm. My guess is that you'll find him
more persuasive than Jean as well.

Bob, you've had some splits with collaborators in the past. Is there
any site we can go to get all the gory details?

Your willingness to jump into the middle of their dispute says more
about you than either one of them.

Well said, Mickey! I have been trying to figure out how to say what I felt politely. You did it for me.
Cheers,
Bonnie
