Full Moderation for vpFREE

Greetings from Las Vegas, Home of Positive ER Video Poker:

I have decided to make vpFREE fully moderated, IF there are enough
Volunteer Moderators to provide round-the-clock coverage in reading
and approving every message before it is posted.

Here are two new entries that will go into the vpFREE FAQ, to cover
this change when/if full moderation is implemented:

Is vpFREE moderated, and what does that mean? - vpFREE is fully
moderated, which means that every message is read and approved by a
moderator, before it is posted to the group. The primary purposes of
full moderation are to keep messages on topic, and to ensure that all
posts adhere to vpFREE Rules, Policies, and Posting Guidelines. Full
moderation isn't intended to stifle differing opinions, but rather to
ensure civility and a non-disruptive environment.

Uncivil or demeaning posts will be rejected, as will off topic posts,
fluff posts, and questions that are answered in the vpFREE FAQ.

What is On Topic on vpFREE? - Everything related to the overall VP
experience, especially in Las Vegas, is on topic. This includes VP
theory, machine inventories, casinos, slot club benefits, comps, LV
restaurant and entertainment reviews, etc..

I'd like to hear privately from anyone who might be willing to be a
Volunteer Moderator. Please include some indication of what hours you
could cover (for example - 9:00 AM thru 1:00 PM Pacific time,
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday). I'll set up some detailed guidelines,
but mainly it will only entail approving and rejecting messages, and
replying to a rejectee with an explanation. VM's can serve
anonymously if they desire.

Allen,

I'm sure you've seen the latest from Tom Sims, about making vpfree fully
moderated. IF he gets enough volunteers. I will not volunteer, and I'm sure
ypou won't either. I think it's a clever manuver on his part to drive the
point home to a few knuckleheads who kept going on and on with the Indian
thing despite being told to cease and desist. I'm hopeful that some of
these idots will now get the point.

Thanks for taking the time to check up on how Lisa's doing. She was feeling
well enough to jump in Leslie's car and go to the market this afternoon, and
still seems to be feeling pretty good, thankfully. I know that she really
appreciates you and Lynne checking up on her, and of course I do too.

Don't volunteer! <g>

Well, accidents do happen...and sometimes maybe for the best. Obviously my
last post was a private email and was meant for a friend of mine who is also
a member of this group. But maybe it was a fortunate accident, and I
wouldn't be surprised to hear that others who read Tom's notice might have
been thinking the same thing about making vpfree fully moderated. I, for
one, sincerely hope that it can be avoided, because the immediacy of this
board is one of it's best attributes.

Maybe some people do get the message, finally. I don't know how committed
Tom is to moving ahead with his plan, but maybe we can have another chance.

And thanks, Lisa is feeling much better!

Yes, at least one of us was hoping this doesn't really happen. In
addition to the loss of real-time posts, it's a shame to add an
additional burden on Tom. He's done a amazing job with this group,
his efforts shouldn't be rewarded with more work!

Hoping that people do get the point, because I have no doubt that Tom
will follow through if the need continues. (It reminds me of grade
school, when a couple of rowdy students would generate detention for
the whole class. Back then, I'd bribe the class troublemaker with
the Oreos from my lunch. Wonder what works with this group. . .? <g>)

I would like to apologize to Tom and the rest of the group, for my part in prolonging the offending thread yesterday. I appreciate my membership in vpfree and will not abuse that privilege in the future.

One member and I emailed privately and I believe have put any unpleasantness behind us. I hope that can be said for anyone else I may have offended.

I agree. I admit I'm one of the guilty parties. I can't resist replying to some of the political posts. I'm trying to moderate myself. On another board, totally unrelated to VP, I got into a pissing match with another woman on some issue. Someone finally e-mailed me privately and asked me not to argue with her, as she has lots of "issues" surrounding that particular topic.
   I like seeing the red herrings thrown in from time to time. After all, many people here are my Internet friends, I've met several in person, and I like to know what they think outside VP. But I do think a couple of the threads got out of hand, and I probably contributed to that.
   What does bother me is the insults. Calling anyone, even RS, "idiot" or "jackass" or worse is not appropriate. We can disagree with each other without name calling.
   Tom is doing a great job here, and I'd hate to see free speech stifled on this board. But some of us, myself included, could do well to stifle ourselves a bit more.

On another board, totally unrelated to VP, I got into a pissing match with

An interesting visual.

Someone finally e-mailed me privately and asked me not to argue with her,
as she has lots of "issues" surrounding that particular topic.

I have found that these things often get one-on-one in nature. Going
to a private exchange seems best when that happens. The right time
for this is a judgement call.

I feel the same way. Some topics get me very riled up and I will often

Elaine, you and several other contributors add character to what could
easily become a rather dry dull discussion. I disagree with most of your
core beliefs, but I still think you're great.! Don't change a bit.

i do believe we may be throwing out the baby with bathwater!!!
i have been a subscriber to Skips from almost the beginning and VPFree
from the beginning. We have a VERY VERY small number of members who
are causing the problem. One proudly announced he resigned from Skip's
or was barred. He asserted Skip flamed him??? I do believe we all
know who i am speaking about. He or She(I Don't want not to be PC and
It seems really bad) has started two very inflammatory threads and was
warned by Tim. I think it is better to ban the offenders than have the
whole group pay for these members.

Not a social club, not a poltical action group, not a forum for

If you post and it is about VP, THANK YOU for the info.
If you post and it is not about VP, go somewhere else PLEASE. and of
course people will think you are a silly when you post a message to a
VP board and it has nothin to do with VP, what else can they think??

Tom, if this gets moderated out, i understand, it is barely on
subject.

people frustrated with life so they use the internet to vent.

There are many subjects of no concern with VP but of much concern to
VP players that are perfectly legitimate topics under the vpFree
guidelines. I think this board is a richer resource for it. Human
beings will socialize and topics will wander from time to time. So
long as their is reason, civility and humor I am happy.

I am looking for a duplex or triples in LV so I can hone my vp skills plus have a retirement place. What are nice areas to live, and what areas should I avoid at all costs? Any ideas.
