We enjoyed the cruise on the Star Princess - although it was quite cold in Canada and New England. However, we were bundled up so got to explore in every port.

As expected, the VP in the casino was bad. We played a little $5-$10 BJ - won $180 - spent rest of time resting and sightseeing - and pigging out on lots of movies.

We did stop in the casino in Halifax in our wanderings around town. Very few VP machines and they had horrendously bad paytables.

I hope everyone got the Devo tickets I sent out on our way out of town. I couldn't send to a couple of people because we didn't have their address by the time we had to leave. But we found a home for all of them at the last minute.

For those who have an older CD, remember you can update at http://www.frugalgambler.biz/Update_install.htm. Here you can download the Pick'em and Super Bonus Deuces update that came out in 04.

That same link will also give you help if you are having trouble installing the program.

Just a note to answer some questions I have received: Although any VP software program can be used to successfully supplement my new book, Frugal Video Poker, if you want to get the most out of the specific software lessons Viktor wrote for the book, you will profit most by using the FVP software. At the present time, there is no other software program that can do some of the neat "tricks" that Viktor shares with you.

I have found that many of us who are not very computer-savvy don't take advantage of many of the useful functions in our VP software programs. Here are some of the neat features in FVP that you may not have yet discovered:

1. A slot marquee that warns you of repeated strategy errors during your current session.

2. Forwards, backwards, and both direction sequential royal analysis.

3. A volatility graph that shows the peaks and valleys of your bankroll in your session play.

4. You can have more than one player (unlimited). This makes it great in households where both the husband and wife may play. One person may have advanced options when they log into the game. Another player may have the game configured to the very minimum level. Options follow the player, and are not forced upon everyone who plays the game.

5. The hands per hour statistic is actually accurate, as we stop the clock when you look at a tutoring window.

6. All errors are saved. Therefore, you can practice without having errors signaled, and review them later. You can view the errors of any session at any time.

7. A tournament mode allows you to race against the clock to complete the allowed number of hands in the allotted time.

8. Do you have some information from your slot club, but can't quite figure out the cashback rate? FVP offers two different methods of calculating cashback (and/or comps). Just plug the appropriate values into our cashback calculator. It even adds the rate to the return of the game, so that you know the exact EV of the total play.

9. You can figure out what a bonus is worth for any one specific 4-of-a-kind. This is an extremely valuable feature, making it easy to figure out promotions like card-of-the-day.

10. Most importantly, FVP is not only a tutor, but a strategy generator. You can study the strategy chart for the game as you are practicing and then print it out to take to the casino for on-the-spot referencing. This gives you a frugal alternative, if you wish, to buying commercial cards or allows you to have a strategy for games where no commercial cards are available.
