Free unreliable 5 aces strategy

All right, here's the paytable I used:

ElseIf game = "5aces" Then
    paytable = Array(1, 1, 3, 5, 6, 9, 25, 40, 80, 100, 800, 1200)
    paynames = Array("hi pair", "2 pair", "3
kind", "strait", "flush", "full hs" _
        , "4 kind", "4 kind", "4 kind", "str fl", "roy fl", "5 aces")

And here's the strategy. Note, unlike TomSki/etc., this only shows
the odds for the exact cards shown, both kept and discarded. Their
strategy programs typically give you the lowest value for the keepers
described, which is a better way to do things. My program is not that
sophisticated, and so that's why I list the assumed discards – you
have to figure for yourself if your hand is better or worse than
that. Usually I try to pick non-penalty discards, so it gives the
best possible result. When I look at penalties, the description says
something like "A pK", which means holding an ace while discarding a
king. But sometimes even the other hands will have minor penalties
involved. Look at the discards. Also, I don't custom-design the
choices for every game, so not all of these may be relevant. One more
thing, I may list hands that should not be played under any
circumstances – you can pick these out by finding the same
combination of cards with different keepers and a higher value
elsewhere on the list.

Again, I don't guarantee the accuracy of this but, hey, it's free.
Buy a real strategy card from one of the vendors if you want
perfection (or at least somebody to blame). :slight_smile:

As was speculated, these figures show it's best to bust a full house
to draw to 3 aces. However, 2 pair is slightly better than keeping
just the aces, because a full house is worth 9 on this paytable. It
would take a drop to 7 on the FH to change that. Also note that you
should not always throw away other face cards to hold just the ace –
that becomes a complicated decision related to penalty cards if you
want to split hairs, but it appears the general rule to follow is to
hold faces like you would in JOB.

Note also that the 5 paid for straights (versus 4 in JOB) and 100 for
SFs (versus 50) changes lots of things, like much more frequent
inside straight and 3SF holds.
