Free Play day Palms - Sat. Aug. 28

Just got email for free play at the Palms on Sat. Aug. 28. People who
regularly get free play may well have free play tomorrow, even if they don't get
this email. No guarantee though. If in the past these email days worked for
you they probably will tomorrow.

If you are not getting email from the Palms apparently at some time in the
past you have "opted out" of getting mail by refusing to get Brenden or other
Palms mails, and this stops all email.

To get it again, try changing your email address. Otherwise, try
complaining that you do want mail and see if they can change the "opt out". But no
guarantee this will work.

Once it is working you will get Brenden Theater and other Palms emails.

I have played regularly at the Palms for the last 2 years. Much of the time is spent on dollar VP machines, particularly double bonus. My points approximated 100,000 this year as I qualified for the "second tier" card which gives me a whopping $5 off the buffet and other worthless perks.

I have received a total of one mailer from the Palms, offering a $70 room rate and no free play. In fact I have never received any free play or other offers. (in 2 years)

I frequently read that most players received free play from the Palms, who I assume play at this level. When I inquired as to the reason why I was told, "oh your not local. We only sent mailers and free play to locals". I replied that I thought our money was the same and I visit the palms at least 7-8 times a year, for several days each time.

Apparently they dont care and I no longer go there. Has anyone else had the same experience?

I stayed at the Palms 3 times, the first year that they opened. I
stayed 4 days each time, and earned about 35,000 points at each
stay, so I presume I ran $35,000 through, for the most part, FPVP;
i.e. 10/6DDB, FPDW, and FPJW. They comped my room each time (but
RELUCTANTLY) after I called a slot manager. No food was comped.
Frankly, I did not appreciate the "hipster" ambiance of the
Palms...quess I'm told old....and I opted to stay where my play is
appreciated, after that. I NEVER rec'd a single mailing from them.
I don't really miss the Palms at all. Different strokes for
different folks, I quess.

Nelson,

You're not alone in your frustration. Many real
players are feeling the effects of the switch in focus
(of some casinos) from player driven revenue to retail
driven revenue. Hot spots like the Palms & Mandalay
Bay have no problem getting top dollar for their rooms
and full price at all their restaurants.

In my opinion if you're not getting offers it's
because they don't want to comp players. They want to
sell retail and still get play too.

For more aggressive comps and offers I suggest the
Harrah's Brand. If you're open to finding out what
kind of offers you qualify for... send me a note.

Thanks, now i dont feel left out. I agree that the Palms hipster element was not to my liking either, particularly on the weekend when they crank the music up.

The whole concept of where you live dictating the marketing strategy seems ridiculous.
(locals dont get offers on the strip, non-locals get little or nothing off strip). It seems that the money we risk is the same. Plus when you consider the majority of non-local strip visitors pay near full price for rooms anyway. If the off strip properties would send the offers I would stay there and give them all the business. Or even give a room comp up front considering your previous play (like the strip places do). This "well pay almost full price and we will see when you leave..." stuff rarely work out. Plus you have to chase them down before you leave. A hassle.

Currently I stay on the strip (using an offer or a pre comped room deal), rent a car, and visit other local casinos during the day.
If am lucky, I may get a free $10 lunch. Since most strips casinos only have jacks or better, I play that at dollars or five dollars.

I have noticed when I play a $5 jacks machine at NYNY or Treasure Island, the offers come poring in. Even if I dont run that much through the machines. Free play included.
Usually I pay nothing for the rooms, which are always nice, a little or nothing for food on the strip. The marketing goons must say "hey he bets $25 a hand, get him back!".

It was amusing my last visit to the palms, hit the dueces twice on a $ machine and the progressive DB royal for $4,600. I guess they wont get a chance to get it back.

Far be it for me to defend the decision-making processes of the idiots in charge of most casinos, but most local's casinos don't have very many rooms, period - hence they aren't eager to offer them for free. The Palms is the classic example of this: they have only about 400 rooms, but are one of the most famous and trendy casinos in Vegas (I don't really know why, except that excellent marketing is definitely part the reason). When they can fill their rooms with millionaires, movie stars and such, it makes little sense for the make room for us.

Some local's casino DO offer easy rooms - Sam's Town, Sunset Station, and Boulder Station have been pretty good in the past.

If you're playing $1.00 - $5.00 denom, several hours per day, you
should be able to be fully comped almost anywhere.
For a nice gamble, try downtown some day. THe Golden Nugget,
despite the sleazy impression given by their clueless dot.com young
owners, in that slimy TV program, is lovely. Their vp inventory is
only mediocre, but that have LOTS of JoB, 8/5B, and 9/7DBprog. with
huge jackpot on seq. royal. There is LOTS of other stuff to play
downtown as well at the "grind joints". FPDW, FPJW etc. Try it
you'll like it. And, I promise you, you'll get more offers than you
can use!
