I know a way to get in to any trade show you want. Apply for jobs as
security at the two major providers, SOA and Protect. Just don't show up for your
assignment and don't return the uniform. Later on down the road when you see a
show you want to attend like SEMA [aftermarket car stuff, every booth has a
car and a girl] Just put on your uniform [it's a Protect show] and march past
any guard at any door and say, "Doing that guard thang huh?" Once inside hit
a restroom and put the guard coat in a bag. Then... visit booths and explain
you're a CEO of [make up a name of company] sign in their log and you'll get
more passes sent to you the following few years than you can possibly use.
Getting into CES Keynote is more tricky. You have to actually show up for
work [an SOA show] and insist you've worked Keynote set up before and know the
theater backwards and forwards. You get to see all the presenters rehearse and
have trouble seeing the cue card machine and ad lib their lines. Set up
starts Jan 2nd.
I remember a Metro cop asking me if I could get him a pass to the SHOT show
[gun dealers] and telling him the plan then realizing who I was talking to and
stopping. Later on I told him to take a vacation way out of town like
Denver, buy something at a gun store and ask if they could send him a pass. From
there the fake CEO story would get passes for all his buddies in future years.
I'm not into guns so the SHOT show was not my fav. Every other booth has a
TV monitor showing a marksman taking aim at a deer. The animal falls. The guy
with the gun turns to the camera and smiles.
