We just got back from a free Alaskan cruise we received through the Venetian.
The Venetian gave 50 cruises to top point winners during an approximately 2
month period, but since some couldn't go on cruise due to fairly last minute
timing, or perhaps didn't want cruise, they went lower on list of eligibles.
They also took a few BJ players along. My host helped us get on the cruise
too, and that is one reason to be nice to your host! She knew that we would be
available for any last minute cancellations.
The good news was we had a wonderful outside cabin on aft of ship with
balcony. Venetian flew everyone from Las Vegas for free, which may be one reason
that some people declined trip, since if notified at last minute, airfare to and
from East Coast might have been as costly as trip. The plane arrangements
were a bit awkward on a charter flight with long bus ride on both ends to ship.
They did feed us and feed us. Carnival Cruise had excellent food too, good
entertainment, Carnival Spirit was cruise ship and decorations somewhat odd.
We had to pay for tips and any excursions.
The thing was that I got sick mid-trip and spent most of my time in room,
after a couple of cold/raining day excursions, and drafts, plus not enough sleep.
My cold went from bad to worse and after a day home I went to Dr. and had
diagnosis of pneumonia and now am on antibiotics and mostly in bed. I'm feeling
a bit better after 2 days of med to do a little telecommuting, but I might be
home for days or weeks.
The VP on cruise was poor with best game an almost NSU at $1 level. You had
to check schedules carefully with changes on different multigame machines as
you changed demonination. JB was generally 6/5; DB 9/6.
I did manage to win a Royal Flush for $2000 on first day on the bad not quite
NSU! That was at fifty cent. Then I realized pay schedule was even better
at $1 and hit deuces for $1000 - though lost about 700 in getting the $ - so
still came out over $2000 ahead. I guess it was fortunate that I then fell too
ill to play since I was able to take the $ home with me, which paid for all
our cruise expenses.
I hope I feel well enough to make Skip Group meeting next week, but might
not.
best, Linda
