Hello,
I got to read your entire post, to my husband and it all made sense and thanks for that, however, it leads to more questions for myself (not Kenny, hehe)..I wonder who or why came up with the average of hitting a Royal every 30k hands came from ? If this is the case, I cannot comprehend that being random.

If we are talking about progressives, a royal should be hit more often as strategy adjustments are made.

Hi Howard,
I presume you are not Anna Nicole's Howard ? hehe..
No, I have not learn progressive yet. I only do DWVP (and occasionally DBVP) but, I am talking about DWVP.
That is good to know when I am ready for it..however, that does detract from the totally random theory.

The cards you are dealt are random, how you draw to them is not.

The 1 RF every 32,898 for a progressive JP, comes from cycling through every hand you can get dealt. That's every combination you can make drawing 5 cards from a 52 card deck.

It's exactly like knowing that a coin comes of heads half the time, and tails half the time, because it has two sides. In this case, there are simply 2.6 million sides.

52*51*50*49*48 / 1*2*3*4*5 = 2,598,960

4 of those are your dealt Royals, the reaming ones are drawn. The total is about 79.

2,598,960 / 79 = 32,898

Hi Meredith,

No I am not Anna Nicole's or the NY DJ or the one in South America either. The only non progressive VP games with a RF hit frequency significantly more often than 1 in 40,000 using best strategy that I am familiar with are One Eyed Jacks and Double Bonus Double Jackpot. The latter is really the same thing as 9-6-5 Double Bonus with a $2,000 Royal Flush progressive. Most deuces wild VP has a RF frequency around 1 in slightly over 45,000. You never discard a deuce in those games and most do not play ace + another suited high card. (Some actually do not hold king + another suited high card part of the time but that is a very advanced discussion.)
