FPVP Players In Minority

I have always been amazed at just how easy it is to walk into a
casino and sit down to play full pay video poker. From what I see,
so many prefer to play short machines and reels.

This weekend past, we happened to go to the Pioneer in Laughlin,
where there just happened to be a weekend video poker tournament in
progress. There are only three 10/7 DB machines in the casino and my
wife and I played two of them when ever we wished, despite 100
extra "video poker players" on the floor. While ther are plenty of
9/6 job on the floor, I would have to believe that with that many VP
players present, there would have to be at least three hard core DB
players. Not that we could see.

Then, we went over to the Edgewater to get some points. It was very
busy, as usual. But we were the only players at a bank of full pay
multi game machines by the sports bar. With FP JOB, 10/7 DB and FPDW
on these machines, one would think this bank of 8 or 10 FAST slant
top machines would be packed. Nope.

We have seen exceptions - especially in Las Vegas - but pretty much,
the full pay machines are often open, while ugly and short pays are
taken.

Are there that few of us?

There are, which is why entities such as Harrah's thrive despite an
inventory of relatively poor vp paytables.

It can be rationally arugued that the best thing that can happen is
for casino players to gain a better grasp of vp paytables and how play
of stronger machines can extend their play. The stronger the demand,
the greater supply is likely to be.

We just don't want those new players to play too "intelligently" :wink:

So we want to educate them, but dont educate them too much..... I used
to try to 'help' people understand, but gave up because 99% of the
people think it is too much 'work' to be educated, and thank goodness
for them, they are carriing the rest of us. I have a friend, that I
have been trying to educate for about a year now, and recently we were
playing at the same location, I had him on a 9/6 jacks with a double
value progressive at over 101% and he lost something like $100 at
quaters. He got aggrevated, and went and played a 97% game and
happened to hit something decent and was slightly ahead. I found him
checked the paytable and scolded him for playing a crappy game. His
comment was 'I would rather win on a bad game then lose on a good
game'. I call this slot mentality, and I think almost everyone has
it, short of a very few of us.

There is no doubt that vpFree members have a optimistic view of the
percentage of advantage or informed vp players. My favorite anecdotal
piece of evidence is at Harrah's East Chicago, which actually has 10
decent machines: 9/6 JOB, NSUD and 99.8% triple bonus and has this
bank of machines light with a big flashing sign "Over 99% payback"
right next to these machines are the same games with typical Harrah's
paytables some with a very small progressive...which machines are
heavily played...the crummy paytable machines the 99+% are rarely
full...I guess people demand bad pay schedules.

One more example: One machine at this same harrah's has 8/5 JOB and
8/5 bonus poker...I have seen people playing 8/5JOB over 8/5 bonus
WOW!

I suspect it is a very up-hill battle to educate the general vp
population. note: even when I pointed out the better pay-schedules of
same games people will often reply...this machine is lucky for me!

The key is to promote demand for 99+% machines where casinos make
money but players get a fair deal, particularly when comps are
included...100+% is just an abberation with limited long term
viability

Skip, I have a feeling that you're trying to force an entry in to
the ChamPUNship Play on Words Tourney, to be held in the basement of
the El Cortez, next January. There is no entry fee. The rules are
simple. Every entrant in the tournament room is required to repeat
aloud every pun and play on words that he/she can remember. The
door to the room will be locked. No food/sleep/bathroom breaks are
allowed. The following day any participant who is still sane, will
be awarded a prize. First prize is one week of RFB at the EC.
(Careful Kitty's Coffee Shop only). Second prize winner (if there
are actually TWO sane people left) receives TWO weeks of RFB at the
EC. (The winners may be on Prozac.)

Let me know if you're interested.
