FPDW frenzy at Fiesta Rancho (08/16/03)

Yesterday, 08/16/03, there was frenzy at the bank of
FPDW progressive at Fiesta Rancho. The JP registered
at more than $1800 before it was hit. This effectively
raised the payoff at 102%+. Certainly not easy to get
a seat at this level :-(!. Any one in our VPFree group
hit it?

Let's put this into perspective:

Assuming you play 800 hands/hour (pretty fast) and play perfectly,
your hourly earnings rate rises from $7.60 to $20.00+ (plus comps).
This means that IF you get a seat (unlikely, unless you are skilled
at hand-to-handbag combat), you will boost your hourly EV by $13 or
more...IF you hit the royal before somebody holds a singleton club
ten and hits it (this usually happens on the machine next to
you)...and IF you don't die of smoke inhalation (the "wise guys"
seem to all smoke like EPA Superfund sites). Really, if you decided
to pitch the whole day overboard, and went down to the Fiesta R, and
played for six hours, you could have had a "theoretical gain" of
about $80, and gotten out of whatever work you told your wife you
were going to do that day.

Personally, it now takes a lot more than $80 for me to destroy a
perfectly nice (albeit hot) day sitting in front of a video screen
inhaling stinkarette smoke and slowly aging while chasing a royal. I
guess I consider my time and life worth more than that sum at this
point. But that's just me...

BTW, given that you get stuck with a W-2G, your royal is only worth
what it would be after taxes; if you were in a 25% bracket, for
example, that royal is really only worth $1350. Now, you REALLY
should have stayed home and watched Gilligan's Island reruns, or
cleaned the grease trap, or whatever.

Now that the cynic has checked in we can get back to
the business at hand.

Of what conceivable value was your post? (Other than to sling a mild
insult at me, and to share with the world your august opinion that
YOU didn't approve of my post.)

Since you are so concerned with the "business at hand", you should
be reluctant to clog this board with posts that say nothing more
than, "I didn't like what this guy said".

I welcome discussion, disagreement, and alternative points of view.
What I dislike is reactions that contain nothing more substantial
than a dog yapping at me through a closed car window.

I offered a perspective, a point of view about a subject that
appears frequently on this board: playing progressives. Please
disagree with me all you like (never mind the fact that disagreeing
with a subjective opinion is kind of silly), but if you are at all
capable of it, please do so in a civil way.

(The above post is like tilting at windmills, but like Don Quixote,
I will continue in this hopeless quest for its own sake: to see if I
can post anything more controversial than: "Video Poker is Fun"
without having some anonymous clown insult me.)

After reading both of your vital posts I'm just
thinking that if you think $1350 after taxes isn't
worth your time than why are you even here. This is a
forum for people who enjoy playing video poker and
enjoy communing with others who do likewise. I'm sure
that everyone here has other things to do in their
lives with much more impact and importance. This is
fun. If my 2 line comment sent you into a tizzy, maybe
you shouldn't read my posts. Besides Gilligans on..and
you forgot to set the vcr.

Certainly this is a matter of opinion. What I objected to was the
manner in which you delivered it, couched in an insult (albeit a
mild one). And I repeat, what possible value did it have, to inform
the world that you disagreed with me?
It has been a common disease on this forum (and many, many other
internet discussion boards) that many people seem to drop any
pretense of civility when posting. The shield of anonymity seems to
provide an excuse for dispensing with the routine politeness usually
found in face-to-face conversation.
If you truly don't understand what I mean, perhaps you should try
talking to complete strangers in real life the way you do to them on
the computer, and watch the reactions you get.
Feel free to disagree with me or with any other poster, and feel
free to express that disagreement, but please do so in a civil
manner. If you don't know what "a civil manner" means, I suggest you
contact the moderator of this board.

What is the JP?

What is the JP?

Even though it is only one word, my guess is that JP stands for jackpot, as
in royal, which is three more letters than JP to type. I would speculate
that some of us are just way to busy.

Actually, IF you hit the royal, your EV has gone up by $800/(# of
hours played). If you don't hit the royal, your EV is same as it was
playing a regular FPDW machine. Since you don't know whether you
will hit the royal or not, your EV goes up exactly the $12.40 stated.
