I was at the "Woods" yesterday playing the Sigma Double Joker machines
near the Subway eatery. Around 2PM a crew of slot mechanics appeared
and started shutting down the machines. When they got to the one I was
playing, the slot mechanic told me LAST HAND..sorry. There was a suit
with the mechanic and I asked him what was happening. He said the
machines were being shut down for rutine upgrading. He assure me that
the same machines would remain there. I sure hope so as they are the
only reson for a vp player to go there! I would appreciate any
feedback / updates.

Foxwoods Sigma games shut down!
I've been to Foxwoods twice during the last few weeeks.
The first time on 9/5/06 playing the JWD Sigmas I've been stiffed with
no points and then on 9/16/06 stiffed again with no points (yeah I
always check my card to see if it needs to be reinserted) before I
begin to play).
The first time I saw a host before I left and although my coin in was
recorded I got no points. It was corrected about three days later.
The second time on Sat Sept 16th, my coin in was off by about two
thirds (less than it was supposed to be) and even the coin in that was
recorded, produced no points in my account. I called a host the next
day, Sunday, and she couldn't figure out why I got no points for the
coin in that was recorded. She said she would take care of it -- and
she didn't. I then called back Tuesday and only got a recorded message
to tell me to leave a message and that a host would call me back -- no
one called me back. I then sent an e-mail message via their Web Page
form on Tuesday night -- and no one responded.
I called back again today (Thursday) and told a host the story of no
points and no responses. He again saw that I had coin in, but got no
points for the coin in -- and he could not explain it.
He said he would give me a food comp for my recent average point value
per visit that would be good for up to three months.
So beware, I think the screwups has something to do with the
new "FreePlay" they are trying to program into the machines that they
just sent out. Both my wife and I got "freeplay" this month instead of
the normal bonus free comp points.
I noticed that the VP machines all had signs above them stating that
this machine is not yet setup for "freeplay".
So again beware if you got freeplay mailed to you and you only play VP
you may not be able to use it on VP.
This new FreePlay program may have something to do with the screwups
in the points as well as why they were "reprogramming and "upgrading"
the JWD machines when you were there.
I encourage everyone to closely check their coin-in versus their point
accumulation, as I've been shorted and stiffed on these two occasions
in September. And it's been a real hassle to attempt to get it
corrected.
I hope 1) they keep the machines and 2) fix them so they can
accurately record coin in and assign the proper points to the account
and 3) allow players with freeplay to use the freeplay on these
machines.
I'm cynical, but we'll see.

I was at Foxwoods yesterday 9/29/06 and just about the entire bank
(both sides - about 24+ machines)near Subway was shut down except for
two lone JWD machines were lit and being played. The rest of the
machines about 20+ machines each had a note saying it was temporarily
shutdown per order of the Gaming Commission. So they may have been
shutdown for the entire 8 or 9 days.
In addition, almost all the video poker machines in the Grand Pequot
Casino have been replaced by slots.
Freeplay is still not usable on any video poker in the casino that I
could find -- only slot machines.
Morever, the line to get freeplay at most Players Clubs booth was very
long in the morning. Most people standing in line in the AM and
playing machines were over 80 and appeared to have come from the
assisted-living facility. I nearly got run over twice by two speeding
scooters and then later got caught in an extended traffic jam behind a
large multi-column parade of people with walkers.
Bascially, although I went to play VP, all I did there was get my
freeplay, quickly ran it through a dumb slot machine, played a
matchplay at a baccarat table, and kept checking to see if the lone
two lit JWDs had become unoccupied (which they had not). So, after
about an hour or so I left and went to Mohegan and played some Pick'Em
there and a bit of BJ.
In the AM at Mohegan, for about an hour, I was the only person playing
the bank of $1 Pickem machines in the old Poker room. I've never seen
it so empty before. One of the machines in the bank was shut down for
the entire day.

1) I'm new to the forum, so Hi All ! <waves> 2) I go to Foxwoods 3-4
times a month, normally playing in the Grand Pequot. Last few times I
could tell they were ramping down the VP machines ..... there's only 2
or 3 DDB machines left now. However ...... I hear tell from 2 Grand
Pequot staffers that all the stoooopid video slots in the bar are soon
to be replaced by - VP !! (Let's keep our fingers crossed.)
Next time I'm down there, I'll check out the casino in the old Poker
Room. Have to remember to NOT wear heels though .... it's a long
walk.
(PS "Sigma" games ... can someone fill me in ?)

Four times/month visiting Fakewoods would be fun. Kind of costly as
almost eveything is a negative EV play. If I lived near MS, I would
definetly be there 4 time/month.

3)The old poker room is at Mohegan Sun - correct?
The original reference was to the old poker room at Mohegan. I think
fuschia_goddess may have thought it was referring to Foxwoods
because an old poker room/area now exists at Foxwoods as well.
Poker was played on the main casino level. A few months ago, they
moved all live poker to the lower level at Foxwoods. In the old
poker room/area they have put in new slots but also some new multi-
game video poker machines. But nothing there approaches even 98%
potential long term payback. I think I saw mostly 8/5 JOB or worse
and the other VP choices were extremely short pay.
So as has been the case for awhile, there is nothing on the dollar
level or larger worth playing at Foxwwods IMHO. And if they don't re-
light the 25 cent JWD and 8/5 Double Jackpot machines, nothing worth
playing on the quarter level either.
I just got an email stating they are offering double points for much
of October at Foxwoods. But when you are losing 3% to 9% on every
quarter or dollar you play, getting back 1% or 2% in comps (or even
some of that in cash) isn't too attractive.
I have devised a very short strategy card that can help anyone
minimize losses on games with paytables with a maximum potential
97.50% long-term payback.
It's just one line:
"Don't Play"

Do I detect you think there is a signifcant possibility something
intentionally underhanded is occurring at Foxwoods?
ST
ST, I think there is almost NO possiblity at either Fakewoods or MS on
Nevada machines of a dishonest deal.
Not because they wouldn't take the chance on bad publicity; its just
too much effort to hack the machines.
The Fox did have some VP machines sevearal years ago that were made in
Florida (I think). They are long gone as far as I know.
When I googled the manufacturer, I was amazed. Right on the website it
discussed how Casino could select different % holds (without changing
paytables)!

1)I think your email is about both Fakewoods and MS - correct?
No. I (or when hubby is not on his sub, we) strictly play at Foxwoods.
2)You shouldn't play the DDB at Fakewoods unless you know something

I'm going through several web sites (both here and others) to pick up
on the verbiage used in re: VP. I'm not new to playing but new to
playing *seriously*. Paytables, I get. "EV", not so much. Bottom
line - when your only choices are Deuces Wild or DDB, I'll take the
latter. (Unless there's better machines in another part of the facility.)
3)The old poker room is at Mohegan Sun - correct?
No. Never have been to MS, but ...... since hubby isn't around now -
and it looks like they totally "trump" Foxwoods in the VP area, I may
just try them. (Besides ... they have a Godiva chocolates ..... <drool>)
4)There's a bar at the Grand Pequot? soon to have VP?
Yes. The bar in the back - used to have Blackjack ? Still has a Keno
Lounge, but the tables were replaced a few months back by rarely
played video slots. I'll keep you updated if/when they change out the
machines to VP.

Foxwoods is about 45 min. for me, add maybe 15 more for MS. (Off to
define "EV" since that seems to be an issue with Foxwoods ....)

Ah. Thanks. I knew of IGT/Ballys as manufacturers.

Vicki,
Thanks for the heads up on the possible soon to be VP bar at Pequot.
Its worth the extra 15 minute drive to check out Mohegan. My wife and I
play mostly $1 Pickem. Some $1 9/6 Jacks or Better. If your a $1 player
MS is a reasonable gamble.
I think the Fox has (had) a few Double Joker 25 cent machines which is
a decent gamble but a difficult game to learn. My advice:
1) Buy one of several VP computer software packages and practice. You
will be surprised how many mistakes even a "pro" makes (even sober).
2) Print out the strategy table for your games of preference. Refer to
them when you gamble but do so discretly.
3) Take advantage of promotions, free shows and free stuff as that is
the only edge we have in return for risking our money.
Stay away from Rhode Island gambling!!

The double joker machines were the Sigmas as were the other not
terribly negative games.
I just looked at this month's Strictly Slots mag and Foxwoods was
voted on the reader survey as having the best video poker on NE! If
ignoraance is bliss, they must have one happy readership.
