The first of many moving days. Our morning started at the side by side
8/5 BP machines in the hallway at the nugget. Mrs. F was in fine form,
fragging out four deuces and having four queens dealt. Not one to be
trifled with, I looked at her, did two quick raises of the eyebrows,
and nonchalantly pressed Deal.
A dealt straight flush! A2345 of spades. Very nice. I gave her the
'smart-ass schmarmy sideways shake of the head'. She gave me a kick in
the shins. But it was all good. The day was looking better and better,
and I could feel I was homing in on that elusive Royal.
We moved on to the Bonus Slut machines and played a couple of hours -
but no quads. And no Royal. We also gave the Deuces Progressive a shot
- the Deuces were at $330 and looking fine. And unattainable.
Breakfast was at the Carson St. dealy and was quite good.
Time to put in some play at the California and see what that place is
all about - we'd never managed to properly explore it.
We found some JoB in a brick archway, overlooking the craps pit. The
Flushatella was dealt four to a straight flush in hearts and pulled
the fifth - also A2345. If she'd had a gauntlet, she would have thrown
it by now. I ripped off quad Kings holding one, and we decided to try
some 50 cent BP. I had a bad time of it but the lovely Mrs. F nailed
quad 8s.
Pretty much this trip our play had been equivelent, except that she
was even and I was losing my shirt.
We moved on to MSS to play some JoB at the bar. So far I had had
another couple of 4TAR scares. But close only counts at the Berlin Wall.
We checked out of the McNugget and the slot club picked up all our
meals. We also scored some cashback. We'd stowed our bags at the bell
desk - long will I remember what happens to your bags when you don't
tip as you drop them off. Just a little reminder there. I'd tipped
generously. (And would do so again upon their safe return. It's just
smart.)
We thought we'd check out the El Cortez before actually committing to
stay there. We've had some warnings and were a little nervious about
'that part' of town.
Walking east past the end of the Fremont St. Experience canopy felt a
little like strolling off the end of the earth. We were a little
nervous about what it would be like, but the price was right - $30 for
two nights with the LVA coupon.
The ElCo is old school. You must smoke in order to be gained
admittance. Preference is given to those who are wearing the same
clothes as the four days previous. But you know, I kind of liked the
place. The staff is friendly and it had a funky lack of elegance to it
that I liked. We came to play. And that was the reason this place
existed. No fountains. No shopping malls. No trippy shows or $55
buffets. Just a rough 'n ready joint.
Our room was a pleasant surprise. Older furnishings, but clean.
Reasonable bathroom. And extremely handy to parking, because it was in
the parking garage.
I'm not even kidding, there is a multi-story parking structure with 4
floors of parking and a motel stuck up on the fifth.
Our view was wonderful, taking in the old school El Cortez - Gambling
neon, looking west down Fremont. We decided it was fine. We've stayed
in much much worse places. (Like that hotel in Rome with the common
bathrooms and the piss peanut on a stand which we never figured out
how to use. But that's another trip report...)
We broke the ElCo in with some JoB at the bar. We hit a quad each, and
then trundled back to MSS for a comped lunch at the buffet.
We played some more Jacks there, and worked our way back to the McN.
to grab our bags. We flipped for it. Heads we take a cab, tails we
drag our stuff by hand and gamble the cabfare. Tails it was!
Now came the fun trek to the El Cortez. It really wasn't too long a
stroll. I'm sure I've dragged my luggage further at Luxor.
We dumped our bags in the room and found some 8/5 BP on the other side
of the bar and gave it a whirl, playing for about an hour. Mrs. F
bagged quad 3s.
We gambled around the ElCo getting a feel for the place. I loved it,
except for the smoke. Very very harsh. Before long, I was hacking like
a Bingo grandma.
Dinner was an easy comp on our ElCo points earned thus far. All our
meals this day had been comped. It was an ac-comp-lishment. Heh heh...
Mrs. F dumped her cab fare money into a $5 slot and made $100. That
was cool. We finished out our day playing some 25 cent roulette and
when it was over, Mrs. Flusher was up $250 on the day. And I was down
$295.
And no Royals.
And trying not to be down.
But dammit.... where was that Ace high straight flush I seeked?
Tomorrow would be my birthday. Maybe good things would happen.
