Florida Video Poker

Florida is a different issue. The Seminoles can offer better games
than the racinos because they're taxed at a much lower rate. It has
nothing to do with hold or market. The Seminoles are offering 9-6
Jacks at $1 and up in the South and 8-5-35 Jacks in Tampa for $2 and
up. It would be a loser for the racinos to offer those games because
of the tax bite.

I am unclear on this point. I was under the impression that most knowledgable members of this group believe that the looser the video poker, the more the casino will earn. If that is the case, than the racinos should be offering games as good as the Seminoles offer.

I, for one, *DO NOT* believe that the looser the video poker,
the more the casino will earn! In fact, I believe the opposite.

I guess I'm not a knowledgeable member of this group. :frowning:

There is no simple yes / no answer. A number a factors, including the customer mix, additional benefits, all overhead costs and, possibly others, all need to be considered when deciding whether to offer looser games. However, in most cases today casinos could increase profitability by offering better games but not by offering games that would give the store away ($+ FPDW etc.)

Unfortunately, it is my experience that most gaming managements are not interested in developing modern business metrics to determine how to maximize income.

Agreed 100% A win for most players is a short term loan. Even the
seasoned player will return to the machine that gave them a royal
last week. Give the player a fair deal and he will be back. One
just has to look toward live bj. The casino has to make the game
good enough to keep the not so good player in the game enough to
have some fun. As a result, casino has to put up with the counter or
those who think they are counters. I believe the last 2 cancel each
other out.

The problem today is the casinos are operated by suits that are just
bean counters. In the old days most casinos were operated by
gamblers. How could aa non gambler really understand all there is to
know about running a casino?

If I remember correctly, the tax bite for the tribes is 35% and 60%
for the racinos. You tell me how they're going to hold 1.5% on the
Jacks, give 20% player reinvestment back, pay their taxes, and still
make their shareholders happy.

FWIW, I've already surveyed FL, and I'm not even sure I'd take the
room comp at Seminole. Quite a few issues with security. A couple of
the drawings are marginal.
