Flights from Los Angeles to Las Vegas?

having never flown the route before, i'm unfamiliar with which airlines are best bet (price and reliability). spirit's prices are ridiculously low. but what's the catch? never on time? no pre-seating? any advice would be appreciated. thanks.

The catch(es)?--Fees for carry on bags, fees for checked bags, fees for advance seat assignments:

Spirit maybe a better airline on the west coast then it is in the east but
as of earlier this week they charge for each and every item , service and
amenity imaginable.

The airline claims that its pricing structure is customer friendly as not
everybody has a carry on bag or luggage or the need for a comfortable seat,
etcetera.

These items and more must, of course, be purchased and increase the price
of the ticket that is advertised, as being very low, but these costs add
up very quickly and steeply. Passengers are enouraged to prepay all such
charges as each of them costs significantly more at the airport. Too bad if
you prepay for two bags and show up with only one...no refunds. Spirit is
also totally unforgiving if you are unable to board the exact flight for
which you have previously paid. No refunds, no credits, no extenuating
circumstances.

Spirit president Ben Baldanza made himself eternally famous by hitting the
"reply all" button while instructing an employee to write a "get lost"
letter to unhappy customers after describing the customer in ribald
terms. The customers shared the snarky letter with the press.

His recent exploits included overcharging returning military for carrying
their duffels. Want more? Google it ... Lots of things that would be funny
if they weren't so sad.

Their only redeeming quality is that they really push to get you off and on the plane quickly to get an on time departure. Since few people are carrying on rollers they board quickly and since their planes are filthy and rarely cleaned they start boarding as soon as the last person is off the plane.

As others have stated, they charge for everything: carry on bags, checked bags, seats, printing your boarding pass at the airport, nuts, drinks and pay toilets coming soon.

With that said, sometimes the price difference was so significant that I flew spirit. If your bag is 16"X12"X14" you can carry it on without paying a fee. If you print your boarding pass at home shortly after the 24 hour time limit you will almost always get a window or isle seat for 'free' and save the $5 for printing the boarding pass at the airport. Bring your own nuts.

I'm from the LA area and I prefer to fly out of Burbank to avoid the LAX traffic. We typically fly Southwest, but they're pricey on the weekends. Weekdays you can fly SW much cheaper. They have several flights a day leaving for Vegas from Burbank. JetBlue flies out of Burbank to Vegas, but they have one flight a day which leaves in the late afternoon. If you are staying in or around the LAX airport area, you'll find Southwest flights cheaper than Burbank and they have several flights a day as well. JetBlue flies out of LAX as well. Hope this helps.

Spirit has no customer service. If you are lucky to get someone on the phone, it will be someone in India. They only know two phrases: 1) Sorry about that. 2) There is nothing we can do. Their president is proud of the fact that the airline generated the largest percentage of complaints among US carriers. If Spirit cancels your flight a few hours prior to take off, they will refund your ticket price within 10 days, give you $50 future travel certificate and let you figure out on your own how to get home, pay for day or two of extra lodging, expenses and so on. If you try to change your itinerary, they will be glad to charge you $150, which is typically more than the cost of the ticket.
There is always price to pay for being cheap. Our cost was about $700 to buy same day tickets from another airline and arrive 10 hours later than we originally planned. Just want everyone to be aware.

We used to fly Spirit from Boston to AC on Harrah's nickel.
One trip the flight was cancelled and Spirit (after four hours) announced that they have were bringing buses to shuttle their passengers to AC. That would be about 7 hours? And I know a lot of the passengers were heading to points way beyond AC.
We declined and went home.

Would an airline do that if the flight was cancelled out of LAX?
