First TIme in Las Vegas...

Hey Group,

I'm on the east coast and am looking into making my first trip out to LV and am very excited!! I'm not really looking for all the lights and glamour of The Strip, however, I am planning on visiting of course.

I'm trying to keep this as affordable as possible considering that I will have to include round-trip airfare in my Bankroll...therefore, I'm considering staying somewhere Off-Strip on my trip.

I'm looking for advice and suggestions that you locals might have as far as inexpensive, (relative to Strip), accomodations along with vicinity to Strip and good selection of VP games... I'm a big-time walker so I'm definitely accustomed to walking to destinations, within reason

Also, any advice and links to cheap flights from the east would be great as well.

All post are greatly appreciated!!

Thanks,

Manuel

Doesn't sound like you will have a car?

I would recommend Sam's Town. They have 2 free shuttle buses:

You can also walk to Eastside Cannery and AZ Charlies Boulder from ST.

Also, if you REALLY like to walk, you could walk to Boulder Station, but it's probably about a mile away from Sam's Town.

Using a Taxi.....Excellent VP at these locations: Palms; Rampart; Arizona Charlies West and East; and even though I have given up on Station Casinos due to terrible service at Red Rock...I will have to say any Stations Casino...Red Rock, Green Valley, Aliante, ect....(see the web site for more Stations Casinos. Walk all you want and also use a taxi....the cost will be worth it.

Air Trans for the cheapest flights made at least 14 days out.

For the Palms call Manny ( best host in Vegas) at C: 702-277-2108...not sure what he can do for you and your situation, but he is by far the friendliest person anywhere in Vegas.

Enjoy and good luck!!

Also, GC has a shuttle to the Orleans and the strip.
Sam's, Orleans and GC are all on the same card for comps. (Boyd casinos)
It also includes Main Street, Fremont and California all downtown.

Good luck!

I stayed at Boulder Station last week and it was a very good value. I also stayed 3 nigts at the Golden Nugget where you can walk to several casinos and take the ACE bus to the strip.

I like the El Cortez downtown. I stayed at the El Cortez 19 days last month for $45 (less than $3/day).

Using 2 specials at Orbitz reduces the cost to $39.36 for 3 nights
  a) Book 2 days, get 1 day free
  b) $25 discount on 3-day hotel stays

The cost is further reduced
   a) $3 if you use cashbaq.com to book Orbitz
   b) Gambling/food coupons which El Cortez gives you for internet reservations

See details at http://flyertalk.com/forum/las-vegas/1069159-el-cortez-april-3-nights-mon-sat-40-32-3-rebate-8-13-coupons-2-nts-may.html

Since it is your first time, you are going to want to stay a lot closer to the Strip than Sam's Town.
I would suggest the Gold Coast or Palace Station as economical options with good VP. Don't rule out downtown either. The Golden Nugget might be too pricey, but places like Fremont and Four Queens might work for you (be aware that rooms downtown are usually smaller).

Where on the East Coast are you flying from? I usually fly Southwest from Baltimore. If you watch their site, use their Ding! app or sign up for emails, you can get reasonable rates. If you are up for more of an adventure, consolidators like Expedia and Orbitz occasionally have fares under $200 (before taxes and fees) for some of the red-eye options with layovers (not a great way to fly, but it is cheap).

Good Luck,
Mark
