Firekeepers

About five or six miles east of Battle Creek, Exit 104 (I think).
There's signs for it everywhere, you can't miss it.

First Firekeepers report: I was there today (wed ...8/5) from Noon until 8:00PM. It is officially open and exit 104 from I-94 gets you there easily (it can be seen from the freeway). The bad news first ..... for 25cent and less Video poker players this a huge wasteland of pretty machines that pay terribly. There is not a single 9/6 JOB, not a single NSUD's, not a single 8/5 bonus poker ... absolutely nothing! The 25cent pickem machines are the 97.09% variety we are now seeing in Greektown. They have all the current machines (super times, multi strike, spin poker, 3/5/10 play, 50 play, quick quads (just two that I saw), spin the wheel for 4 of a kind (also just 2 that I saw) .... but, again, any serious VP player would get sick to his/her stomach looking through all the paytables (I felt that more than once!!). I am very, very dissappointed that Steve (slot guy from Greektown) did not have any influence to install a few decent machines.

For dollar players (I mostly play dollars and did today) you have a bit more selection but not much. Most of the pickem machines are the crappy paytables with a few (by the poker room) that pay 99.25% .... (10,000 for the royal, 1,000 for a straight flush, 500 for 4 of-a-kind, 90,75,55,25,15, and 10). You have to search for these. They also have a few scattered pseudoNSUDueces (98.91%) and one (I repeat one) $1 double, double bonus poker in the high limit area that is set to 99.96% (10/6/4/3/2/1 ... with a straight flush at 200) ... just like the $1 progressive DDB at the Greektown bar.

The players club line right now is super long ... but, moves super fast since they have 20 team member helping you to get a card (in the bingo room). I think the cash back works like this: 1) $3 in gets you 1 point. 2) 100 points = $1 3) Cashback = .33%. I was told that any $$$ accumulated can only be used for a) freeplay back on the machine or b) $$$ towards meals and c) merchandise as well. I do not know anything about bounce back cash yet.

The casino is beautiful and they seem to have a great new air filtration system (many, many floor intake/outake vents). They have lots and lots of table games including some that I only have seen in the D ... PaiGow poker, Crazy 4 poker, etc...

I ate at their main buffet. It was $15.00 for the meal and the food was very good (I'd say a step or two above G Town) ... however, the seating area is kind of small and cramped.

I walked out ahead after 8 hours .... only because I got lucky on the pickem (hit 4 deuces for $500), and also hit 4 deuces on a psuedoNSUD machine for $1,000. I played quite a bit on the slower table games (I'm not a blackjack player).

Will I go back??? Probably, but not very often and that is sad because it is only 40 minutes from Lansing. Right now Soaring Eagle and Greektown still have much better VP payouts even without the higher paying Pickem.

I most definitely WILL NOT reccommend this place to my relatives and my friends who value my knowledge of Vpoker. STEVE (if you are listening ...),
you screwed this great opportunity up!! ... not a single 9/6 JoB in the house ... ridiculous!!

BTW, there is also a very nice Poker Room for those of you who enjoy live poker.

I welcome any one elses take on this 'Firekeepers' casino. I might have missed something somewhere but I spent my first hour trying to look at just about everything before starting to play.

Thanks for the great update on the VP at firekeepers. I have already canceled my bus trip that I had scheduled to go in September now. I guess if I want to travel 2 1/2 hours to play bad VP, walk around and be very disappointed, I can do that closer to home then ! It's always exciting to go and check out a new casino when they open up or be one of the first ones in, to explore the place. But I guess with not much to play, I won't go out of my way to check it out unless I'm in the area.

Don't they know that VP players don't like playing BAD paytables.... lol I'd probably end up playing the slots there instead !

I walked though last Wed. night. I can add that I saw several 9/7 DB (99.1%) in $1 denominations in IGT Game Kings.

Very nice casino, though. I really liked it.
