Fire at Empress Joliet

At about 10:00 am today (3-20-09) a fire broke out in akkitchen area of the Empress Joliet that was undder renovation.

The latest is that this is the first time that the JOliet FD has had to call in units from other districts to help put out a blaze. IIRC Channahon, Shorewood and Plainfield FD's were dispatched. The roof over the area where the fire broke out has completely collapsed, flames are spreadig to other portions of the main building.

As of yet, the casino area has not been hit, but the FD isn't sure it can keep the blaze from spreading there.

I also heard that the FD ran out of water in the hydrants on site.

Word has it that if you have any coupons for the empress, that the Hollywood casino in Aurora will honor them for the time being.

That having been said, I'd call over there first.

I was there today and had coupons for both Hollywood Casino and Empress. They would only cash either Hollywood coupons or Empress coupons; not both. Was told I could come back tomorrow and cash the Empress ones, as I cashed the Hollywood one today.
