I play 9/6 JOB machines were the top three prizes are progressives.
The casino makes its money because the RF reset is 250 for 1, versus
800 for 1. There are different denominations from $0.20 to $1. This
game was $1 and required a $5 bet.
In the past, whenever I see the quads at $175, I would play the game
since the machine has an extra $50 for quads and I figure I would
walk away with $20 in EV. This is a very risky proposition since
you can hit four quads in one hour or hit one quad in four hours.
Ocassionally, I might get lucky and hit a super-enhanced STFL along
the way. I normally don't chase SFTL jackpots unless they are at
least $1,000. I should note, I do include the meter movement of the
quads and cash back in my equation, but I don't include RF or STFL
meter movements since I rarely hit them.
The bad news first. I put in $1,000 and I cash out out at $472.22.
This meant I lost over $500 chasing the quad before cash back.
Ouch!! Like I said earlier, it's a risky proposition. The quad was
at $180 when I started the pursuit and I took it down at $197.22.
The good news. Along my pursuit of quad hunting, I was dealt a pat
flush in hearts with four high cards. I decided to throw away the
8H and kiss away $30 in guaranteed win. For some strange reason, a
10H showed up for the RF and I connect for $1,858. Sweet.
For perfect play, a RF at $1,858, STFL at $375, and quads at $180
with the rest at the 9/6 pay schedule, the game returns 101.48%. I
wasn't using perfect strategy so I figure I was getting about 101%
and adding back the quad meter movement and cash back, I figured it
was about a 101.8% opportunity, but full of risks.
Two months ago, I saw the STFL at $1,000+ and I was too chicken to
play the game since I didn't bring enough money. When I went back,
someone had already bagged the STFL. STFL cycles are about 9,500
hands when it pays $250, much higher than the 425 cycle time for
quads.
In summary, after all these years chasing quads, I was finally
awarded a short-pay RF, and I am very happy [despite the fact the RF
wasn't at least $4,000].
