"Figuring out the Formula" from Bob Dancer's column in CP mag

Earlier, I wrote, to Bob Dancer:

"Is Aquarius owned by a company which owns other casinos? And if so, do you
have a history of play at any of them?"

I checked the Aquarius web site, and found it's owned by the same company
which owns the Stratosphere, and both Arizona Charlies. I know that several
years ago, you played quite heavily at AC Boulder. It also seems likely that
you've played at some of these properties more recently. It is quite possible
that if Aquarius looks at your play at its "sister" properties, you might be
viewed as a more desirable player than someone with little or no play at these
sister casinos.

What do you think?

Brian addressed to me: It is quite possible that if Aquarius looks at

What do you think?

The last time I played at either Arizona Charlie's was in 2000, and at
the Strat it was prior to that. And since I was playing dollar Ten Play
10/7 Double Bonus there during multiple point days and was a significant
winner, it's unlikely that the "desireable" notation is attached to my
account.

Your supposition is possible, however, and is not one I considered. I
assumed that their current records do not go back that far. This does
not strike me as a company with an up-to-date player tracking system
that would automatically retrieve such data.

It strikes me more a company with a comparable system to the Gold Coast
--- and without merging threads, there's been a lengthy discussion here
recently about the problems there. Gilbert's original post on this
thread included the possibility of a casino screw-up. Although this is
certainly a possibility, I hate to base decisions on something like
"it's impossible to figure stuff out because the casino is run by
morons." I strongly prefer to have a more solid basis for making
choices.

Another of Brian's "throwaway" suggestions was that different machines
were set to different theos. Although he discounted the likelihood of
this, I've seen this at too many casinos to ignore it. When I play for
the same denomination again, I'll be sure to play at "my" machine again
rather than "Cody's". It might be nothing, but why not take advantage of
the possibility at no extra cost? This makes more sense to me than any
of the other possibilities. Perhaps I'll cultivate a relationship with a
host and learn more.

The properties have recently been sold and although the current
management is supposed to continue on after the ownership change, there
will likely be numerous changes. Spending a lot of time figuring out a
system that may go away soon strikes me as not a good use of time.

One other wild guess (and something I've always wondered
about) is it possible that the casino actually
does a simple computer backgroud check to get annual
income and other $ related figures and base some
decisions on that .... > diposable income ==>
more $'s to lose in their casino.

I've always assumed this is why my offers suck

Well Bob you wrote about it so a little more analysis might be
worthwhile, certainly the age, zip code and other background info the
casino has might have gone into the calculation dont you think? How
about if he had other play at other casinos before? A Henderson zip
is probably a lot more + than a Las Vegas general one..., play at any
other casinos might have gone into a first offer...And werent you the
one who reserved the rooms? Any flea knows an offer with room stay is
different than that without.

Beachstu speculated on why Cody and I received different offers.

It is possible the zip code made some difference, although in fact the
value of the house Shirley and I own is not substantially different from
the one Cody owns. I do have "large" lines of credit at several Vegas
casinos, so Central Credit has this information and it would be easy for
a casino to retrieve, but it seems far fetched that this source was
consulted before determining whether to send a $40 or $100 offer. There
was no room offer made when we earned the points. We were staying at
Harrah's that day and went to Aquarius specifically to check out and
take advantage of their newcomer promotion.
