"Figuring out the Formula" from Bob Dancer's column in CP mag

Another couple of possibilities.

Perhaps speed of play (coin-in/hour) is part of their formula. If you were
playing your machine faster, as seems likely, than "Cody," your play might
seem to be more desirable to the casino. After all, a faster player "should"
lose more per hour, all else being equal.

Maybe the two machines were mistakenly set to different theos. Unlikely, but
certainly possible.

As you say, these things are difficult to figure out. And I wouldn't
completely discount the zip code thing. Even age or marital status could be factors.
Maybe they did a study that showed that older married people lost more money
at Aquarius! This assumes that "Cody" is younger and/or single, of course.
And that you revealed your marital status to the slot club.

One other thing occurs to me. Is Aquarius owned by a company which owns
other casinos? And if so, do you have a history of play at any of them?

There has been some speculation about why Cody and I received different
amounts of money, including speculation by people who hadn't read the
original article. None of the explanations rang true to me other than
Dick's catchall "I suspect there are many other possibilities as well."

I think you might have hit on it. Aquarius is linked to Stratosphere
and Arizona Charlies. I've been getting small offers to get me to go
to the Aquarius in Laughlin and the invites have the Stratosphere's
and the Arizona Charlies' logos on them. So while the slot club may
be separate they may draw on the same database for marketing offers.

In my experience, that's not entirely uncommon. If play was
restricted to two machines, I find this the most likely explanation.
