After a somewhat-different suggestion by Harry, I asked Jeffrey
Compton if he was interested in speaking to Harrah's about comp stealing
incidents --- perhaps leading to a column.

Jeffrey has been in touch with Harrah's. Without explaining who
Jeffrey's contact is, it turns out that they would like examples of how
people have had their Total Reward comps stolen. So if you have a story
about this that you'd like to get passed along, please contact Jeffrey
at jeffrey.compton@compdance.com, me, or post it on vpFREE. If you wish
your story to be posted anonymously, tell Jeffrey that and he will honor
your request. If you wish Harrah's to know your name and card number so
that you can possibly be reimbursed, do NOT post that on vpFREE but
rather contact Jeffrey directly.

If there are any conclusions from this communication between
Jeffrey and Harrah's, Jeffrey will likely publish them somewhere
(perhaps Strictly Slots or Casino Player). I'll try to get him to allow
me to post the article here after it has been published.

I can understand Harrah's wanting to anecdotally substantiate
incidents of this. It may be that there are measures in addition to
an ID request that would be appropriate in curing related problems.

However, I trust he'll impress upon them that there's a decent number
of concerned players who will be relieved if Harrah's begins to
consistently request ID in all situations where it's appropriate, even
in absence of any direct comp theft experience.

A key one is the admission to Diamond lounges. I've found an ID
requirement to be irregularly enforced. On the couple of occasions
over the years I've left a card in a machine and lost it and I've
shuddered at the thought that someone might lift it and use it to
access the Diamond lounge, recording casino activity on a day when I'm
not present.

I was very gratified this summer at Harrah's AC when I saw someone
stopped at the lounge desk because he didn't have ID. He said he had
been given the card by his uncle for access. They made him return to
the casino, saying it would be fine if his uncle was present long
enough to admit him. The guy never returned.

Good going Bob. This will benefit all of us:)

Another view on comps and stealing them.
My experiences in Diamond lounges this year are
extremly varied. I find that in Vegas the checking of
ID's is pretty tight except for a few patrons who seem
to have special privileges. A brief wave to the door
person an usher in two or three guests.
The real fun starts out of Vegas. I have visited The
Grand in Laughlin several times this year. Been asked
to swipe my card once, never had my ID checked and
noticed that multiple people walk in and out of the
lounge unchallenged.
Whilst in New Orleans a new door person was extremely
aggresive with demanding ID's shouted at my wife that
she could not sit down until my ID was verified. Then
proceeded to walk along the patrons sitting at the bar
asking for their Players Cards and ID. The lounge is
situated in the high limit gaming area.
Finally in the Cherokee Casino, which is dry anyhow.
We were informed that we could only visit the Diamond
Lounge once per day or we would be charged $10 per
person.
Part of being a Diamond level player is the ability to
visit the Diamond Louge and relax for a moment or two.
It seems that when non diamond members are freely
using these facilities it negates one of the reasons
for playing at Harrahs. Also in some instances the
staff should be aware that the patrons in the Diamond
lounge are putting a great deal of money through the
casino which might just be contributing to their pay
checks.

I haven't had anything stolen yet, but I try to be
careful. I have 2 comments.

1. Casino Windsor never asks for ID when using points.
I have mentioned this to my host there.

2. Why doesn't Harrahs simply come up with a PIN
number like Station Casinos or even something as
simple as month and year of birth like some other
casinos do .

A.P.
