Farewell and good luck to all

I've received over a dozen e-mails asking me why I am no longer
posting, and i'm been remiss in responding to them. I am attaching
below a recent response that I think explains my position.

I'd just like to remark that at least half of the posts in the last
three months have been off-topic ("XVP") to some extent. This REALLY
seems to set some people off. The sad fact is, though, that the days
when we happily alerted each other to all those 103% plays laying
around like ripe fruit are long gone. There simply isn't that much
to report (except downgrades). Furthermore, people are shy about
sharing info on the few good plays that DO show up because to do so
seems to lead directly to the plays' premature demise. So given that
this board---as well as the overall concept of advantage VP--has
become useless; a thing of the past--I'm not unhappy to leave.
Whatever amusement factor I have derived in the past has been
obliterated by the flamers and the censor.

I also think everyone should take note of the recent El Cortez
barring of players who "only play on triple points days", the cutoff
of Palms and Stations mailers to those who are only playing positive
machines, and other alarming trends. The people who MADE money have
already been identified and hounded out of the casinos; now, it
appears that those of us who DON'T LOSE are also becoming pariahs.
You may wish to reconsider your next Vegas vacation for someplace
that doesn't hate to see you coming.

Anyway, take care, everybody, and I hope you all continue to win.

---ROJ

Tom Sims barred me for two weeks last month for one of my responses
to Bruno Magli. The response in question was actually measured and
polite (especially in light of the thinkgs HE had said), but there
was SOMETHING in there that Tom objected to. I protested this, what
I felt was unfair and unequal treatment; his response was
essentially, "too bad".. I still don't even know exactly what it was
that he objected to (and I've repeatedly asked him).

So anyway, I don't tolerate being treated unfairly, I don't abide
petty rule-mongers and tinpot dictators, and I don't allow myself to
be kicked around for someone else's pleasure. I TRIED to conform to
TS's guidelines (and succeeded quite well IMHO). But TS cuts his
friend, Bruno, far, far more slack than he does me (although he
eventually barred BM for four weeks, it was only after a flood of
nastiness spewed in my direction over the course of several days; if
I had posted anything like what Bruno did, I would have been
INSTANTLY whisked off the board).

Therefore, I have chosen not to post to this board any more, until
such time as someone else than Tom Sims is moderating it.

It's for your own (and ours) good your being kicked out of here. You know the history of this group ? All the 'old-timers' come from Skip Hughe's original VP poker discussion group, and Tom had the guts to split up from Skip forming his own group for FREE!. Free and working group means incorporating some discipline, eliminating trolls and disruptive members - and Tom's done a fine and fair job at it so far. Good luck at the Caveman Keno Free group !

Speaking for myself, it was the content of the off-topic posts that
was of greatest concern. I think there's every merit in surfacing the
fact that some aspects of casino operation and enforcement may not be
(likely are not) on the up and up. Any prudent player needs to be
mindful of this.

An occasional well-tempered remimder of this topic serves well.
However, the general tenor of your posts quickly took on that of a
vociferous crusade. That hardly ran afoul of vpFREE guidelines.
Personally, I simply found it tedious and unproductive. My remedy ...
not to read.

The sad fact is, though, that the days when we happily alerted each

You've nailed this on the head. For a various number of reasons,
people aren't sharing the best plays. But that hardly makes the group
useless. That was a peripheral benefit, at best. The true value is
the passionate camadarie found here and it's general purpose of
enriching the play experience, whatever the opportuntiies to be found.

Whatever amusement factor I have derived in the past has been
obliterated by the flamers and the censor.

While I won't speak to the VPF Administrator's actions in this
instance, I will say that I generally loudly applaud his efforts.

Your reference to "the flamers and the censor" alludes to one
disruptive aspect in some of your exchanges.. There's nothing about
you that suggests thin-skinnedness. So I was surprised when isolated
comments, that are unacceptable in nature but largely arose in the
course of heated debate, provoked an interpretation that they were
vilely and maliciously hurled.

My take, in each case, was that the incidents may have encroached upon
the bounds of flaming, but didn't willfully cross the line. Whatever
the case, excertising the benefit of the doubt and merely advising
that the comment was unacceptable would have gone far to keep the
discussion on a more positive note than lobbing an accusation of
"flaming" and declaring yourself an injured party.

To date, there are hints in what you write that suggest you find
yourself the target of a conspiracy of flamers, setting things in a
context where you anticipate you'll be attacked for what you write.

I can only say that in general you might have been better served by
seeking out a higher, more positively focussed ground from which to
participate. In your initial contributions there was every appearance
you had set out to do just that.

These are, of course, my own personal observations. They're prompted
because you've had much good to contribute here. You're entirely
welcome to dismiss them entirely; I won't defend them. Just
expressing a few thoughts that I hope might prove useful consideration.

At one point there was talk of a pool of sorts on when this would happen. He actually made it longer than I thought he might.

Too bad, really. If you could get past the "aliens are in every machine - cheating you" stuff he posted a lot of good stuff. I'll miss it for the entertainment if nothing else!

Try my shoes!

Is it true the casinos in Vegas are "hounding" certain VP players per the memo from ROJ? The casinos make so much $$ off everone, I can't believe they would single people out. Cheaters and card counters yes, but not good players.
