Ever been told by a host "You're winning today, why should I comp you?"

Last month, my wife wanted to try out the Buffet so I told her to sign up at the Player's Club and they'll give her a free buffet. She got the ticket for the free buffet so I told her to wait for me while I get one for me from the VIP lounge. The people there have been so nice to me for years. Most of the time, they would ask me "How much do you want for your comp?" when I wanted to eat at the coffee shop or their other restaurants. That day, Sunday around lunch time, was very different.

One of the casino hosts (ok I won't mention his name, David C.), was there instead of one of the assistants. As soon as I ask for 1 lunch buffet, the first thing he did was check the computer and see my play.
His response was "I don't see why I should give you a comp today. This is business you know. You are winning today.". So I told him "Wow! I've never heard anything like this from a casino host before.". Then he checked more about my play and said "You were up last year and the year before that too.". If my wife wasn't waiting to have lunch that day, I could have just easily walked away from that host. Instead, I told him "Does your database tell you how many people (friends/families) I brought in here to sign up and play here?".

What did you do? (If similar thing had happened to you before)
or
What would you have done?

I would have asked: "So I'm getting punished for being lucky?* Do you really think I can control when the machines are going to be nice to me?

*Note: Previously I have used a similar line after being informed by a host that my offers are being cut off. It really doesn't help to change anything, but it does cause the host to squirm a bit while they try to come up with a reply.

Same thing happened to me at the East Side Cannery. I played for about 3 hours, put through about 6 grand, and I was up a few dollars and had earned about $20 -$30 in cash back. I asked a host for a lunch comp and was told to use my points. I left and have never been back.
The host said it was their policy. I said fair enough, my policy is no comps = no play.
