For the non-nitpickers in the group, assume any match play coupon is worth
approximately 1/2 the face value.
For example if you normally bet a $5 bill when you win a even money bet you
get $5 win plus you keep the $5 bill.
With a match play worth $5, if you win you win $5 but they take away the
match play. Thus the "value" of the $5 match play is only $2.50 - the value of
an equivalent cash bet.
Obviously you have to match that with real money, and the total value is
actually of all combined bets is actually somewhat less because you have to
subtract the house's advantage on any bet you make.
Since you normally don't have an unlimited amount of match plays,
non-nitpickers will consider them as a very short term play. So if someone hands you a
$20 match play - it has a value close to (but actually somewhat less than) a
$10 bill.
If someone hands me a "almost" $10 bill - only available as $10 if I bet
that $10 plus another $20 of my own money - it is still worthwhile doing so.
Especially since I am probably going to use a lot of match plays over the long
run of gambling.
Suffice it to say, we seem to do the best with pass line bets, and have made
a lot of money on these over the years. Yes, sometimes you do lose, but if
you lose about 51-53% of the time, which is a good approximation (nitpickers
will never have heard of approximation or rounding off or generalizing a
subject to make it easy to understand), you will still end up winning money,
because they are giving you that almost free, "almost" $10 bill to match with
your real $20 bill.
I suggest nitpickers may have more fun computing the exact value of their
match plays than actually playing them.
Meanwhile I'll contemplate the $168 we won at Stardust earlier this week
with mostly $20 match plays (and a couple of extra BJ bets) and the $15 we lost
at Rampart the next day using several American Casino Guide and Las Vegas
Advisor $5 and $10 matchplays.
And I'll keep my eyes open for more matchplays anywhere I can find them.
